I just bought a Dell laptop, and they sent me 2 Windows XP cds with different authentication numbers, both individually wrapped. I called Dell and they told me to just keep it. I thought about selling it on EBay. Can I legally do that?

Cant see why not, they are your property, and you can sell whatever computer gear you like second hand on Ebay, so why not?

They do say on the green XP cover "For distribution with new Dell Computers only"

I think that if you sell ANY hardware, you are legal. Perhaps sell it with a power cord or something.

A California district court ruled you can legally resell unopened OEM software. Head's up, though, I don't know if Ebay feels the same way. They may think that you have stolen the software instead of coming by it legally and delete your account.

    I'd risk it, though.
