...I no longer need. It's a Dell 166mhz lattitude with CD ROM, 56k fax modem, 64meg of ram and a 4 gig hd with Works 2000. What do you think is a fair price?

Tom, get whatever you can and don't think about the original price. (I have a Tandy 102 or two lying around the office that you can pick up really, really cheap.)

I realize this isn't going to be anyone's network server, but for word processing, spreadsheets, email, etc., it's an excellent second computer. I just don't need several computers lying around.

Tom, sorry for the sarcasm! In all seriousness, you would be lucky to get $50 out of it (at least that's my husband's opinion...he's an IT manager and he has been building systems for years). Being in Knoxville, maybe you could put up some flyers at UT. A poor freshman might want it to do Lit papers or e-mail back home.

    Just a thought.

You might also check with a missions agency or school to see if they might make use of it. I have friends who serve with Bibles International- http://www.biblesint.org/ - who have said that technology obsolete to us Americans can be very useful to our brethren in less advanced societies.

    Something to consider, anyway.

166mhz with only 64mb isn't enough to run the current operating systems. I'm gonna guess that the laptop is at least 5 yrs old. Quite honestly, if you get $25 for it, you're lucky. I suggest ebay.

We donated an older comupter (not internet capable) and second monitor to our local 'mission'. The mission needed the monitor and knew of a very bright high school boy who had been looking for a computer that was good enough for doing his papers.

I'd donate it and use it as a tax write off.

I have considered donating it. I've also considered giving it to my mother as she takes a class or two at the senior citizens computer center. I have been offered anywhere from $50 to $100, and less comparable computers on EBay have fetched $130 plus shipping. If I decide to sell it, I just didn't want to fleece someone over it. I know what I'd pay for it, as I used to build computers.

    Thanks for your input.

A local store is selling dell laptops of that variety for $150. They say they have been refurbished.
