Normally, you and I are on the same page, but I part company with you about unions. I think if unions totally go away that we would end up working in the U.S. equivalent of third-world sweatshops.

No, most of what the unions fought for are now encoded in law.

I could go along with government fiat in place of union-management bargaining.

This is an incredibly well thought out post that is logical, middle of the road, and ecnomically astute.

I can't believe you haven't been drawn and quartered yet :)

I have to admit, this part really bothered me. The industry is about to collapse and UAW think they have bargaining power. These guys don't get it just like the CEO's just don't get it. I was on their side until they agreed to pay cuts but not until 2011. They are in trouble now but we'll take a pay cut in 2011? Are these guys nuts?

Well, the reasonable parts are in the law but not things like 96% your base pay if I lay you off. That won't make any law and it shouldn't be in the union agreement.

I am sooo with you brother! Some people feel they are so invincible.. look at the CEOs... Blago... Casey Anthony... and now the UAW...

When will people realize that they MUST take responsibility for their actions? And that there will be accountability.

America is crumbling, and everyone is blaming others...
