Rippon, Have you ever heard of the Shantymen? It is a mission to take the gospel to the hinterlands of Canada, and believe me, we have hinterlands.

These people lived on about $35.00 a week and didn't see civilization for weeks and even months at a time as they climbed through the wilderness in all kinds of weather and conditions.

They are covered in a paperback book titled Men with te Heart of a Viking by Douglas C. Percy.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Here is a report about the Shantymen in the Toronto Star, a secular newspaper.

"If you have the zeal of a Billy Graham, the toughness of a Green Beret, the desire to lead an outdoor life in some of the most rugged terrain in Canada, and in a time of inflation can live on about $35.00 a week and expenses, then consider joining the Shantymen."

    Cheers,

    Jim

Wow! No.I've never heard of them until your posts here."All kinds of weather and conditions",huh? At 55 and not feeling as robust as I have in the past --I don't think that would be for me.

But I know the Apostle Paul went through a lot worse around that age or even older.

I might get that book thanks to you.It sounds like a real need.People could become modern day Waldensians in spreading the Gospel in those far-flung Canadian regions.

It is only a small paperback, but a great little read on missions anywhere. Doug Percy was a missionary in Africa. He later taught at Toronto Bible College, a great school of missions.

Men with the Heart of a Viking,
Douglas C, Percy, Horizon Books, Box 600, Beaverlodge, Alberta, Canada.

    Cheers,

    Jim
