Perhaps she will follow that practice in the Senate. Her dad JFK had one of the worst voting records in the Senate and wound up as president. Obama's favorite ploy was voting present and he will soon be president.

Anyhow Caroline will be a vast improvement over Schumer. In fact any of Obama's old cronies might be an improvement over Schumer.

==From what I have seen, Caroline Kennedy has no more real qualifications for the Senate seat then Fran Dresser does. So why should she be appointed instead of someone like Dresser? Because of her name, her money, or her family history? I certainly hope not! If she is appointed then it proves what I fear...we have a royalty in this country. Her appointment would smack of monarchy. In my opinion, the governor of N.Y. should appoint a temporary place holder and then they should hold a special election.

There will be special election in 2010 and then the regular election in 2012. Therefore, whomever is appointed will have to win two elections in the next four years and probably raise $100 million in campaign funds.

If Caroline Kennedy is appointed(as I hope), then she will have ample opportunity to prove herself electoral wise.

We see hare the desire amongst democrats for a royal family, even if it does include a few murderers. Even Henry VIII chopped a few heads.

Is this public information? It seems to me that it could be used against somebody. Oh, I guess it just was.

Schumer is still a senator though. Why are you saying she'll be an improvement over Schumer when he's still here?

Maybe she felt there wasn't anyone worth voting for..

I have seen many people on this very board talk about skipping an election because of the lack of choice in either canididate.

None of us know why she did or didn't vote any any election.

In NY, Yes it is public info. This info is normally brought up about any candidate if he has missed even one election - without cause (ie in hospital)

When it comes to general elections it would be expected for her to vote - for Democrats - even if she has to hold her nose. She has also missed many primaries

In NY esp in the city, there are normally 6 - 10 parties with a candidate running - and if you don't like any of them you can always do a write in ballot - something which I have done several times myself.

    Not a good sign

Just curious, what makes you desire her appointment?

I'm pulling for Bil Clinton. We need to keep him busy so Hillary can do her job...

Schumer is an arrogant screwball leftist. His inappropriate remarks caused a run on a bank in California. Who knows that may have been the straw that precipitated the recession.

Saw Fran Dresser on Huckabee tonight. Don't know her political views but expect she would be very liberal. However, she was impressive in her approach to the problems she has faced in her life.

    Mayoral primaries? I care not.

The one general election is something to consider, but I don't think this is a big deal.

Caroline Kennedy has no business in the Senate--but not because of this.

This is for the people of New York to deal with. I cannot think of a New York senator in the last 40 years who would have won election in our state.

But I don't understand the comment "Well, atleast she's an improvement over Schumer". With Schumer still in his seat as senior senator, this issue has nothing to do with him. If she were replacing him I can understand the comment but that's like saying "Well atleast this new associate pastor will be an improvement over the senior pastor." when the senior pastor is still in position.

Yeah, I have no love for Schumer but he's still there - so there's no improvement at all.

With Schumer there, he will have much influence over her replacement.

Just as a Senior Pastor has influence over an associate.

Many of my mannerism are based on other pastors I have worked with.

But over all, I do see you point.
