I've known that Pilate tried to release Jesus since I was in VBS at age 5.

Seriously, Pilate copped out, didn't he? He "washed his hands" of it, which was cowardly of him. He had the power to release Jesus.

He was unwilling to do it. He had nothing to fear from the Jewish leaders or mob. They were ruled by the Romans, not vice versa.

I don't see how nice Pilate was. He was a monster. Jesus said He was teaching the truth, and Pilate said "what is truth?" when Jesus had just told him, "truth is what I teach."

John 19:12-16 as I read it, Pilate seems to be afraid of Jesus proclaimed as king, and Pilate doesn't want it to be said he accepted a king other than Caesar.

    Any comments on this passage?

Pilate was not a nice guy, but he was a politician and just like most modern day politicians he had his finger stuck up in the air to see which way the wind was blowing.

I don’t understand your objection… The scripture is clear that the law of love and helping others overrules the ceremonial law. When a faithful Jew touched a dead body doing a good work, they had rules of cleansing that served the dual purpose of (1) teaching the worshipper about the holiness of God and (2) provided practical sanitary guidelines.

Were Joseph of Arimathaea and Nicodemus sinning against God when they took care of the body of Jesus and gave it a dignified burial? They certainly could have avoided doing it, but they chose instead to honor Christ by treating His body with respect:

    Matthew 27
57 When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:
58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

    John 19
37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
38 And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.
39 And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.

While the scripture does not tell us if Mary touched Jesus’ body after His death, it would not be contrary to the ceremonial law or the nature of a loving and grieving mother.

Vaspers, perhaps you are unaware that the Old Covenant ended when the veil was ripped in half by God.

Peace and love to you in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour!

I will not being seeing this movie. It is purely Roman Catholic, filled with Roman Catholic dogma, and is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS for those who do not know the gospel accounts, it is blasphemous, and it is Roman Catholic propaganda. I am shocked and in disbelief, at how many people here are condoning such a movie. There are many articles that have been written about this movie, and the dangers of it.

Larry, I agree with you 100%. If you must stand and warn in the face of verbal persecution, do it for thier sakes, but most importantly for the love of our precious Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. This movie is mocking Him and distorting the truth to unsuspecting people.

Can a corrupt tree, bringeth forth good fruit?

May the Lord bless you all abundantly with spiritual discernment concerning this.

love in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour,
    michelle

    Philippians 1
15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:
16 The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
17 But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

I guess the obvious question here is, if you haven't seen it, how do you know what's in it?

Since many of us here have seen the movie and haven't seen the things you're describing, could you please tell us exactly what "Roman Catholic dogma" is contained in the film or in what way it's supposed to be a "Roman Catholic propaganda" piece?

To be honest, I saw the film yesterday and none of us in my group (including my very conservative pastor and another man who is one of the finest Bible teachers I've ever known) saw anything out of line with the Biblical accounts.

Please detail the Roman Catholic "dogma" and "propaganda" for us.

Christians comment all the time on movies they have not seen, books they have not read, and ABORTIONS they have not experienced.

This "don't knock it till you try it" is what homosexuals, drug dealers, and porno film producers say all the time.

How much of Darwin have you read? Yet I'll bet many of you criticize "Evolution." But have you read "Origin of the Species" et al, or do you merely parrot what others say? You can say you believe Genesis account, I agree, but how do you really know what "Evolution" teaches without reading Darwin?

Peace and love to you in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour!

    Mike Mck,

Here are some webites that have very informative articles about this. I think that they do a much better job of explaining it than I do.

One site is under www.banner.org.uk/, but this needs to be typed under search, and the site can be found if clicking on CROSS+WORD Christian Research: The Home of Banner ministries. The other sites can be found at www.cuttingedge.org/ and www.wayoflife.org/. At the site www.cuttingedge.org/ you click on the news article section, and you will find it under their Daily news section. You can find more articles on this, in a different section, but a subscription is required. At the way of life you can find it at the daily articles listings. At the Cross and Word it can be found under recent news. There is also one more site of interest that has articles on this: www.crossroad.to/index.html.

I hope you find this helpful and informative and may the Lord richly bless you.

love in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour,
    michelle

In the movie it looks like a storm rolls in, and the camera shifts to an aerial view as if it is from heaven looking down and then a giant tear drop falls.

I think the best result, so far, of The "P" movie is the many Christians digging into their Bibles, pondering weighty metaphysical matters, and learning laws of logic and debate etiquette.

I think we all are rapidly becoming better theologians, and more scriptural evangelists, as a result of this debate.

"Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD listened and heard them, so a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the LORD and who meditate on His name." MALACHI 3:16 (NKJV)

That verse applies to all, pro-Passion film and anti-Passion film. Keep searching the scriptures and asking questions about "evangelical" products, my beloved brothers and sisters!

The darkness was portrayed but not total black and not for 3 hours! ... it was a 2 hour movie that touched on the last 24 hours in the life of Christ. Things had to be portrayed more quickly.

Oh and somebody tell the 'v' person that the 'B' book says in the 'J' book...

John 21: 25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.

Fair enough vaspers...but this is a film specifically about the Jesus you worship. I haven't seen it yet, but I am going tonight...all I'm saying is, if you don't want to be seen as just "here-say" than go see it...plenty of churches are giving the tickets away at the box office, so no nickel wil be removed from your pocket.

Anyway, you will do as you see fit, and so will the rest of us. If you don't want us to come down on you for bashing a film you haven't seen, then don't come down on those of us who want to see it or have seen it and appreciated the message...it's all a matter of opinion...I respect yours...respect mine as well...trust that the Holy Spirit within me will give me the discernment I need.

Kathy, glad I made you giggle. [IMG] I have a Passion movie debate opponent who makes me laugh alot and I really love him for that.

If we can disagree extremely about a movie, or other "non-essential to saving faith" subject, then cheer each other up and realize we are all, with differing creeds and concerns, all One Body in Christ, banded together to fight the devil, that's a blessing.

We may disagree on evangelical tools and methods, but we agree on proclaiming the One Way, Truth and Life to all people.

The difference here, of course, is that I can have an intelligent conversation about Darwin's writings and I don't find myself making idiotic comments such as people being possessed by voodoo demons from seeing the movie or some such stupidity.

Unfortunately, every claim you have made about the movie has turned out to be wrong. This illustrates the importance of not commenting on something you know nothing about.

No, you're the one who made the claim. You're the one who should back it up.

Now, what Roman Catholic propaganda is found in the film?
