Should the forum name be changed?

Discussion in '2005 Archive' started by whetstone, Aug 3, 2005.

?
  1. No. The forum name has little or nothing to do with the conflict. Leave it titled 'C/A debate.'

    100.0%
  2. Yes. Intentionally pitting two theological positions against each other can only be trouble. Change

I'm of the belief that much of the problems in the C/A debate forum is because it is named 'debate' and it intentionally pits people against each other (erupting in arguments and conflict). Don't get me wrong, I really like reading and participating in formal debates, but this forum is anything BUT formal. What do you guys think? Perhaps if the vote is heavily in favor of changing the name, the admins will take note.

If you voted yes, please suggest alternatives. My top picks are:

    -Discussing Election
    -Free grace or free will?
    -The Doctrines of grace

These would still make it clear what the forum is relating to- without intentionally pitting people against each other.

Discussing Election is a good pick.

    Soteriology, perhaps?

    Discussing Salvation?

Soteriology is a good choice, but not all will know what it means. Many will start debates on candidates if its entitled "Discussing Election" herbologists will flock here if its called "TULIP". I would suggest Doctrines of Grace (as Whetstone suggested) Doctrine of Election, or Doctrine of Salvation.

Soteriology doesn't appear to be over the heads of the debaters. Most of them are HEAVILY immersed in theological terms.

Jesus did not come to bring peace in the way we normally think of the word. I know this is true because the Bible says so.

    In Matthew 10:34-36, Jesus said:

“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man's foes shall be they of his own household.”

Again in Luke 12:49-53, the Lord said:

“I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am till it is accomplished!

Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three.

Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

I say it is very healthy to hash it out and contend for the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help us God!

I want to make it very clear to everybody......

I value the right of everybody to have their own convictions.

That does not mean I have to value the convictions that everybody has!

It also does not mean I hate people because just because I do not agree with them.

I have my own convictions and God has made me very stubborn in them.

God bless you all! [IMG] KJB

I vote for just plain "Soteriology".

Let it cover all aspects of salvation discussion, not exclusively C/A debate.

Yes that is it in a nutshell!......Either God is sovereign or He is not. If He has no control over one tiny aspect of creation.....no matter if it is an ant....or the will of one mere man.....He is not sovereign.

    here now......LOL....good one!
