It is incumbent upon each voter to make sure that he/she is properly registered to vote. Our military personnel go through great hardships protecting our right republican form of government. A little due diligence on the part of the voters is not too much to ask in return.

As bad as I hate to admit it, they should be allowed to register to vote ...

when they can prove who they are.

Even this is risky. 2000 proved that Floridians , in general, are too stupid to vote properly , even when they're registered.:BangHead:

I personally would like to return to voting cast only by men owning property and businesses. And no pay or benefits for Congress. They would serve the best interest of the people, out of a sense of responsibility.

    never happen, of course.

The public, and you Ken, are far too gullible, and the left wing socialist/communists have you wrapped around their little finger.

I don't think you'd like Chinese politics as much as you think. When only the rich vote they have a way of hoarding the wealth. If a poor person wants a chance to become wealthy they have to have equal access to the lawmaking process.

And I would add to that, only states entirely south of the 40th parallel.

Wow! You and your friend Hillclimber are attempting to say that only men who own property are qualified to vote?

I believe that all American citizens have the right to vote. However, if I were to exempt anyone it would be people like you two!

So, black people shouldn't be allowed to vote either?

Question: what's wrong with letting every law abiding citizen vote? What is so objectionable about, say, fairness?

I own a car worth approx 5g's... is that enough? Or does only Bill Gates qualify to vote? Where do you draw the economic line for this "standard"? Not that I seriously expect you've thought about it...

In true Orwellian fashion, this is the part where you explain that some property owners are more equal than others.

I said I'd like a return to that. It's not going to happen. But our system is now so fraught with corruption, do mostly to allowing careers in politics. And what is the primary function of a senator? To get re-elected. Not to oversee the nations interest.

Every man and woman of legal age and citizenship, and who has not been convicted of a felony should be able to vote in our country. The problem in each election is the balance between letting those who can vote legally do so while ensuring that those who can not vote are kept away. Voter fraud is alive and well in our country and is committed by both political parties. Requiring ID is not an unreasonable requirement. You have to show ID to buy a six pack of beer or a pack of cigarettes, but you don’t have to have ID to vote?

The solution to me is simple. Steep and I mean steep, jail time steep, penalties for voter fraud. If an illegal alien tries to vote they should be deported, if a political volunteer signs up dead people or forges signatures from nursing home patients, they need to go to jail. It needs to be a felony and they need to loose their right to vote for messing with the system. I would be in favor of stationing police at each precinct and taking away in handcuffs anyone who tries to vote illegally. But of course that would be racist.

So they are expecting people who register to vote to have proper information...and what is so wrong with that?
Personally i'm all for protecting the privilege to vote (and i don't think it is a right); and by expecting people to identify themselves properly should only make us more proud to cast our votes.

But hey, what do i know...right? I'm just a married white male with a family and kids who has a degree and two cars and conservative ideals. I'm in the majority in all classifications...but come to think of it, i'm so much in the majority, perhaps i'm actually in the minority. hmmm...

I am all for protecting the right to vote. Why do you think it is not a right considering what the U.S. constitution says:

"The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude." - Amendment XV

"The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex." - Amendment XIX

"The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax." - Amendment XXIV

"The right of citizens of the United States, who are 18 years of age or older, to vote, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of age." - Amendment XXVI

Too regressive, in my opinion. Thank God you are correct; it will never happen!
