A six week communicants class or a three month indoctrination period does not mean daily.

Fact is, we don't really know what the process was back then, all we do know they were baptized the same day-

Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all. Was there short a time of questioning prior to baptizing the individual? We do not know.

Now to be fair, we need to understand that the culture was much different then and being baptized had perhaps more meaning as not only a sign of separation from the "old life" of sin but also from their complete heritage- much like people who are baptized after salvation in many foreign countries. My point being that the very fact that they were willing to be baptized was proof enough of a changed life.

We don't accept simple "I'm saved" and bazinga, you're in. We see if the life matches the lips, if invisible saving grace is manifest in outward actions.

And it is the unanimous action of the elders and detailed commitment to the body needed. No "class", but months of counsel, study and growth.
