That sounds good, at least it's a guide line that holds people accountable.

Salty, Go to the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptists,,,,site and you will find a declaration of faith that will fit most baptist churches. Let me know if you can't find it and I will get it for you.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I once asked a person who wanted to teach if he or she believed in the inerrancy of the Bible. I asked this because I had heard comments made by this person that were inconsistent with sound doctrine. Of course this person and said person's mother and other family members accused me of conducting an inquisition. Imagine the nerve of the pastor expecting Sunday School teachers to uphold the Bible? Anyway, having teachers sign or at least agree to a doctrinal statement would help avoid such problems.

What is the difference between signing a statement of faith and declaring a creed? Being baptist anything dealing with a creed is taboo isn't it?

how would you hold people accountable to make sure what they teach is biblical?

I'm just saying. Isn't it kind of hypocritical? On the other hand I don't have a problem with a statement of faith.

    Sorry about the double post (#18 & #19) !

I see that it didn't help my number of postings total either!!

I've had very little sleep here recently so I'll blame it on that!! :sleeping_2:

Actually, it's ALL SGT SALTY'S FAULT---Payback for what I posted about him in navyman's new member thread no doubt!

Good thing I didn't have to sign a statement declaring that I'd never make a double post on BB!!

No signed doctrinal statements or agreements...

The only way a person becomes a SS class leader in the church I pastor is that they are:

    1. Recruited personally
    2. Recommended by the Pastor
    3. Ratified by the people

Not that a bad apple can't slip through the cracks, but if good work is done on the front end, problems can be avoided. Continuing education (ie teacher training) along with regular meetings with the SS Director and church staff can also be effective in keeping things transparent. IMHO ministry is about relationships not contracts.

I did ask a serious question. Which you quoted me and didn't bother to attempt to answer the question.

I've know teachers who didn't know anything about the bible, or how o study it, and told us that bible study was a waste of time.
In our old church, if a teaching posistion is open, it is given to anyone who will take it, they seem to have a hard time getting people to do anything like that. And as a result they have very few actual teachers, and very few who have any level of biblical undertanding. None of which know how to do actual bible study.

I haven't seen anyone mention contracts on this thread. But in keeping the teachings of the church biblical, and not letting teachers run wild and teach whatever they want no matter if it is biblical ro not.

A bit touchy. Here is my serious answer. I think that before someone teaches people the bible they should have a good foundation and understanding of what it is they teach. They should also confir with the Pastor and the leadership as to what they teach or there will be a disparity of teaching for instance a Pastor who holds to covenenant theory may have issues with certain teachings of a person who holds to a dispensationalist view. So for continuity in the Church there should be some accountability.

However, with that in mind how different is that from holding to a creed which by our nature (as baptist) is against our belief system? Isn't it kind of hypocritical?

We don't think the 2000 BFM is very baptist and have chosen the 1963 BFM as more inline with what we believe.

The BGCT doesn't tell anyone what to do. All churches are independent and free to choose whatever statement of faith they desire or no statement of faith at all. The BGCT did not adopt the statement of 2000 because the churches did not adopt it.

I don't know the BGCT from the 2000BCM or any other letters. To my mind, a statement of faith lists the essentials of what we believe; Trinity, Bible, Salvation etc.

This is all that is needed in a statement of faith to keep all members true to the word.

    Cheers,

    Jim

So are you saying that if you desired to teach, and refuesed to sign a statment, you would leave your church and find another one?

I am saying that there is no way I am going to be told what I can teach and cannot teach, I am teaching the divorce care in our church plus a womans bible study for single women and if there was someone who told me I couldnt teach and like now I am volunteering my time and talent, yeah then I would find a new church.

So you're saying that you refuse to come under the authority of any Elders of your church?Don't church leaders have the right to protect the flock from what they perceive as error?
