Non-Americans can now register a virtual vote in the upcoming US presidential election on a website set up to gauge global opinion.

By clicking on non-partisan site www.globalvote2004.org, voters can choose between the main contenders, Massachusetts senator John Kerry and President George W Bush, or one of five others fighting to win the real vote on November 2.

The other candidates are Michael Badnarik (Libertarian Party); Walt Brown (Socialist Party USA); David Cobb (Green Party); Ralph Nader (Reform Party/Independent) or Michael Peroutka (Constitution Party).

Voters must register which country they are from and if they leave their e-mail address, they will be informed on October 31 what the result is.
