Seems like the pastor is spineless. I commend whoever put the sign up.

I, once reported an inappropriate sign at a polling place -
which was located in a union hall.

Actually, I can understand why the BOE requested the sign come down.

I'm wondering if the pastor purposely put up that sign because of the election

"Senior Pastor Danny Stockstill says as soon as he was notified of the sign he had it removed. He says he's not sure who approved the message but he's working to find out."

Um. wouldn't that be the Lord? Ecclesiastes 10:2

NIV Ecclesiastes 10:2 The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.

Yep. I would not change my church sign for anyone. Tell election super if they don't like it, pack it up and hit the road.

It would be an interesting court proceedings if either side (or both) filed a lawsuit :)

The DNC (or town) could claim libel and force them to take it down.
Church could claim violation of 1st amendment if they were forced to take it down.

Bottom line - a fabrication would come forth from the municipality, an interpretation of some town regulation or one would be created for the occasion to force the sign to come down.

Keep in mind that the First amendment applies to Congress making laws.

Since BOE is having voting at that location - they try to keep everything as neutral as possible.
If the church had the sign up for a week BEFORE the election - that would be fine - but on Election day - it needed to come down.

That looks like a rather sinister choice of translation for an election venue.
KJV - A wise man's heart is at his right hand; but a fool's heart at his left.

Not my problem. Talk to the NIV translators.

It has been plain that any government is considered "congress" by the courts. The church has its right to its sign on any day. Election day is no different. If BOE does not like the sign, move elsewhere.

The concepts of left = liberal/progressive/socialist and right = conservative/capitalist comes from where the French sat in their government centuries ago, but you gotta wonder if the people that wrote the NIV in the 1970s meant it like this. Left used to be evil, right, good but now it means something else totally.

Ecclesiastes 10:2 A wise man's heart inclines to the right, but the heart of a fool to the left.

The BoE is making a big deal out of nothing, that sign won't influence anyone's vote. They changed the sign anyways after some lesbian complained to just "Vote".

Making the church a place of partisan politics? Not for me.

I can think of a lot of signs that would have been more beneficial to all readers. It was done with the intent to ruffle political feathers, not to bring anyone to the Lord. And that's not the job of the church.

The verse in question is not about American politics anyway.

I can think of plenty of people on the "right" who will split hell wide open if they do not submit to God and his gift of grace.

I guess stunts like this, even though I am a right, Republican gal, just make me mad.
