Some Mormons change names?

    I have a question for those who might be involved with witnessing to Mormons, especially the RLDS. We have two Mormon churchs in our small town a regular LDS and a very small RLDS (What I call reconstituted "like orange juice" Latter Day Saints).

    The small RLDS church recently changed its name to "Communities for Christ". Does anybody know for certain if the RLDS is renaming their churches to get away from "RLDS" or "Mormon" names and pitch their heavy "Christ" message?

    It is possible this little church just quit and another church that named itself Communities for Christ; but it sounds fishy and sounds just like a trick these Mormons would pull to make people think they worship the same Jesus we do.

    Anybody know about this?

    My understanding is that the RLDS is the original LDS.

    They changed the name denomination wide. They also have become much more liberal than the SLC Mormons.

    Thanks for the heads-up. I first learned about
    the false prophet Joseph Smith, Jr. from the
    RLDS (Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ
    of Latter Day Saints.) This was the church
    started by Joseph Smith, III (well, actually
    he was a boy and his mother Emma started
    the church, but who is a stickler for
    details [​IMG] ). This happened after Joseph
    Smith, Jr. was killed in Illinois and
    the pologomistic Mormons followed Brigham
    Young out west.

    So the RLDS are now the Communict of Christ (CoC)!

    I guess I'll have to quit abbreviating
    the Church of Christ down the street from
    my Baptist Church as the CoC [​IMG]

    Well Ed, in Australia we have two denominations called "COC"

    Church of Christ &

    Christian Outreach Centre

    I am not sure if there is a Reorganised Mormon group here or not. Probably a likely possiblity scince every religion in the world has a congregation in Australia! [​IMG]
