Some Psalms Considered

I thought it was interesting to observe that there are a little over one-third of the Psalms which have ten verses or less --56, to be exact.

The longest stretch of successive chapters (excluding Ps.132) is between 120 and 134. (Songs for Pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem)

The shortest chapter is 117:
Praise the LORD, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples.
For great is his love towards us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures for ever.

Praise the LORD.

Three more have just three verses.

Psalm 131:
My heart is not proud, LORD,
my eyes are not hauty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
or things too wonderful for me.
But I have calmed and quieted myself,
I am like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child I am content.
Israel, put your hope in the LORD
both now and for evermore.

Psalm 133:
How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity!

It is like precious oil poured on the head,
running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron's beard,
down the collar of his robe.
It is as if the dew of Hermon
were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the LORD bestows his blessing,
even life for evermore.

Psalm 134:
Praise the LORD, all you servants of the LORD
who minister by night in the house of the LORD.
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary
and praise the LORD.

May the LORD bless you from Zion,
he who is the Maker of heaven and earth.
