Without the particular reference to Scripture, your statements are only blanket statements. Association to what it is imparticular will determine if it is really "man's" ideal, or God's command to abstain from the friendship of the world to prevent the enmity caused thereby.

Anything considerd "worldly" will fall under the cause for enmity, but most due to their insensitivity to the Holy Spirit will just go on in thier thinking contrary to the wisdom that comes from above. How :( that is.

What about listening to "liberal" teachers? Is that "one" of those too? :D [IMG]

I had a youth minister with a golden heart but was kinda flakey and had his own set of rules about various and sundry things which teenagers enjoy, not all of them bad (ha ha). Ironically, he introduced me to the ministry of Mike Warnke and seemed to support his ministry (supposedly former Satanic high priest who became a Christian writer and humorist). It was ten years or so later when Warnke was exposed for fictionalizing the truth to a great degree and misappropriation of ministerial funds. Is there a lesson here? Nope. Just personal, sad irony.

Shall start a thread on what the BIBLE (not man's rules) say is "wordly" or "sinful". We have a Bible for some black-and-white standards to which we can all ascribe.

Maybe. Got a couple of guys in the CBF group that probably wouldn't, but they won't post on the Fundamentalists Forum.

    I have a question...standards for whom?

And as far as CBF folks (read liberal) not posting in the Fundamental Forum...well don't be so sure about that!

    Dr. Bob,

I refer to what you are talking about as "fad" standards.

"fad" standards are a "fad" for a certain time and have no real biblical basis. They are a reaction to cultural change.

People say that standards like men not having beards in the 60's and 70's was needed to distiquish
Christians from the world - just because the world does something does not make it right - and just because the world does something does not make it wrong either.

We must examine each thing on it own merit.

I hope we as IFBs will soon outgrow these "fad" standards and get back to preaching the Bible without man's opinions mixed in as if they were the Word of God.

I have no problem with a Pastor having opinions on certain cultural phenomonon but when he makes that opinion on the same level as the commands of God he has stepped outside his authority.

By the way, I think Pastors should be careful of keeping their opinions on things like these to themselves because they look really foolish when they change their view two or three years later.

I pray (and know) not all IFB churches hold this, but at a IFB youth camp I attended with my ex-girlfriend I was told that any guy who had highlights in his hair was living like a "Sodomite"; the preacher informed us that the men of Sodom had highlighted hair. Go figure. :D
