//The shots in the posts have come from so many sides that I can't remember from whom they have come, nor do I care but I might be speaking to you here, and where I do, I believe someone said something about a shoe, (Though I prefer cowboy boots) Oh, sorry, it seems its all right to make fun of me, but if I should make fun of my own self, that even is constued wrong. Where's the tolerance we hear so much about?//

I describe a pair of Cowboy Boots -- if they fit, you (all) feel free to wear them.

Some advice from a 25 year veteran (come July 2008) of the Bulletin Boards and a Witness to the Gospel of Messiah Jesus for 56 years (come April 2008):

    If you (all) come here to have a warm fuzzy feeling -- stay away from the Debate forums. If you (all) came here to learn - read more than you write. {Don't you /all/ fail like some do /anybody/ who think they /anybody/ have ten fingers and 2 eyes so they /anybody/ need to type five times as long as they read ;) }
If God called you (all) here you (all) are right where you need to be. But you (all) will have to suffer for God s here.

God prepares those who make themselves available for use. I was on the Nominating Committee of my church for like 15 years. One day the Teacher of the ladies 60-75 quit. We asked the most knowledgeable lady in the church to teach - she was like 88 (now 96) and though herself too old to teach. The second lady we asked was knowledgeable and had experience teaching adults, but she didn't feel called to do it. The third lady (my mother, now 64+18= 82) was asked. The had a bit of experience teaching Sunday School, but not a lot of secular learning (she got her Bachelor Degree AFTER my dad died). Anyway, guess who got the job? The Lady who said YES. Well, some will tell us that God called them. My Mother was called by the Nominating Committee. I've been called like that before. I still consider it to be a call of God (via the Nominating Committee. Some housewives wish they were called to serve God in some great way, but aren't. Goodness, housewife is the highest calling there is: Minister to children, Minister to a husband.

//First off, I moved over to Fundamentalist because I anticipated that those posting here in this forum were not necessarily fundamentalist and so I might find more in common over at the other.//

When I say 'you' it is usually plural.
When use the Command type sentence structure where the subject 'you' is understood but does not appear - it is usuall plural.
On this bb (bulletin board) media, the writer is writing to all who will take the time to read the words I have written (and sometimes just part of them). By and far though, nobody will read it or even care. And most who read will probably forget what I said, if they even bothered to notice it in the first place. Oh well, the rest of us talk to each other and are better for it.

BTW, for the past 30 years in my Church I've been working to keep the SBC in the Fundamental circles. But I get called a liberal. Oh well, i know i did the right thing. I like liberals though. I guess I can not be drawn and quartered for it, maybe?

    Skypair,

The problem is, Dan isn't mature enough to discuss any of this. When I attempt to engage him in discussion on this, I'll be called a liberal (that's laughable), my Christianity will be questioned, and lots of grenades will be lobbed.

So honestly, it's that most of us tire of being called names and referred to as reprobate, because we engage in the "sin" of doing church differently than Dan prefers.

And the difference is (and yes, there is one)...despite what he says, I celebrate and affirm his choice to "do church" the way he does. There is a need for traditional worship in my neck of the woods...and we still offer it. And we strive to give it our best. But on Wednesday nights, we're not so traditional. And this past Wed. night, a 17 year-old gave his heart to Jesus. I'm just not keen on someone deciding that somehow stuff like that is "not of God" because it doesn't fit into Dan's box.

There's a difference between teaching with love, and condemning. There's a difference between pointing out faults and complaining. There's a difference between serving God with your whole heart, and serving God by law. There's a difference between honoring your mother and father and nostalgia.

    love,

    Sopranette

Amen, Sister Sopranette -- Teach it (the statement above)!

    Mark 7:6-11 (HCSB = Christian Standard Bible /Holman, 2003):
But He said to them, "Isaiah prophesied correctly about you hypocrites, as it is written: This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.
7 They worship Me in vain, teaching as doctrines the commands of men.
8 Disregarding the commandment of God, you keep the tradition of men."

9 He also said to them, "You splendidly disregard God's commandment, so that you may maintain your tradition!
10 For Moses said: Honor your father and your mother; and, Whoever speaks evil of father or mother must be put to death.
11 But you say, 'If a man tells his father or mother, "Whatever benefit you might have received from me is Corban
" ' " (that is, a gift committed to the temple),

    That is interesting.

I don't have to take care of my elderly parents like the Bible says, I have committed my CDs (high interest certificate of deposits) to my church's building fund.

Others I hear along the same hypocritical path:

    1. I don't have to act Christian before you, for the N.T. clearly teaches me to "be separate from sin' - you dirty scumbag.

    2. I don't have to share the gospel with you gayboys & bull dykes -- The Bible says 'don't do anything that looks evil' * -- talking to homosexuals will llok bad to my churchy friends

    * - the Bible doesn't say that, it says to 'avoid evil everytime it shows up IN YOUR LIFE'

    3. etc. you get the idea

Would you like some cheese with your whine?

I will bet when you were a kid you walked 10 miles to school in the snow bare footed and took a bean sandwich for lunch.

    Amen, Pinoybapatist!

I think a person needs the spiritual equivalent of Shin Guards around this place.

And maybe a spiritual hard hat? :tonofbricks:

Would hard hats and shin guards for men be the spiritual equivalent of headcoverings for women?

There's at least 4 more here like Dan. They are right and everybody that doesn't believe like them is lost.

Yes, they kick others and call them sinners....
But refuse to see the sin of pride in their lives....

God must be so proud to have children like them.

Every time I see the name of this thread it reminds me of Bonnie Rait's song, "Something to talk about"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z04r_tlWdRs&feature=related

Ooooops.. Now I will be condemned for liking Bonnie Rait...

That's OK, it will just give the legalists something to talk about....:tonofbricks:  :D

    test,

I'm testing to see if I can cut and paste,

Last time I tried it at the beginning of this post, anything I pasted in the reply box never showed up on the forum.

I'll be back when I get a break.
