To go beyond the "It's sorcery, we must shun it!" argument. If that's the only reason, then it's easy to see the "it's only make believe" argument.

However, the evil is much more subtle and much more pervasive in it.

    Not at all:

WordNet - Cite This Source worship
noun1. the activity of worshipping 2. a feeling of profound love and admiration
verb1. love unquestioningly and uncritically or to excess; venerate as an idol; "Many teenagers idolized the Beatles" [syn: idolize] 2. show devotion to (a deity); "Many Hindus worship Shiva" 3. attend religious services; "They worship in the traditional manner"

WordNet - Cite This Source pulpit
nouna platform raised above the surrounding level to give prominence to the person on it [syn: dais]
FWIW, the word it's from in classic Latin was a stage for actors. My first college "career" was in journalism, but I excelled at English.

There's not nearly enough of an obsession with Secular Humanism.

If anyone hasn't read the Humanist Manifesto, they need to.

Should I read Playboy first then, before condemning it?

As one who strongly disapproves of Harry Potter, I strongly recommend that you read at least the first one before condemning it. It gives you much more ammuntion for the "it's only make believe" argument.

It's recycled make believe as well. Philosopher's stones, basilisks, griffions, etc.... In fact I've seen the same intro to the first book in three similar stories that came way before it (The obvious one being Paddington)!
