Southern Baptist Pastor or Leader who makes 500K per year

    Somebody in another post made a comment that they know of Southern Baptist pastors or leaders who make more than 500K per year.

    I'd like to see that list or find out how you get that information.

    Or is it as I suspect - only mere speculation?!! :rolleyes:

    I don't believe there is a single Southern Baptist Church in America that pays their pastor 500K.

    Now there may be some SBC Agency heads that make more than 250K but I think it would be rare to find one making over 500K. If there is it would have to be with either Guidestone or Lifeway.

    If you added all their salaries together, they would be 500 k per year.

    If the average Southern Baptist Pastor has a salary of $30,000 and there are 42000 SBC Churches then that is a total of 1.3 Billion.

    Gib was being comical, Hardsheller. He knows it is really the combined salaries of the IFB Pastors that equal 500K per year.

    There are a ton of SBC churches out there, some with really large congregations.

    I wouldn't be surprised if a whole lot of SBC leaders (deacons, lay leaders, etc) who make more than 500K annually in the business world. For pastors it is probably extremely rare to see one that makes 500K solely on from their church salary and speaking engagements but there might be a few out there, and several probably make more than 500K when you include investment income.

    I agree that there are probably many SBC deacons, lay leaders and non pastors who make more than 500K. But strictly speaking about Pastors and SBC denominational employees I doubt it as far as their salaries go.

    I know some of them make much more than 500K when you add in their investment income and their wife's inheritance, etc.

    Agreed. The likelihood of a pastor's salary being 500K is very slim but you never know with the popularity of megachurches and television ministries these days.

    I doubt there are many who make over 100,000 ... And I dobut investment income is that much. If they got an inheritance they may be worth that much, but it takes an awful lot of investing to be throwing off 500Gs a year.

    For those interested, here is a site that compares the compensation of various professions in the US through people entering their salary information.

    Here are the median values for salaries of Senior Pastors (not just SBC) who respond to their survey by state of some selected states.

    I am frim believer that a church \should pay a total of all salaries from Senior pastor down to the part time janitor 40% of the undesignated income.
    If a church pays less than that it is understafed. If a church pays more that that could be headed toward a financial problem. if this means that the Senior pastor makes $500K , I would be excited to see a pastor so blessed.
