Wow, I heard the most interesting report on BBC Radio. In Spain, from the 1930's up until not long ago, if a

    single woman
    woman with Leftist political beliefs

    had a baby,

the authorities stole it! Deeming her unfit, they might tell her it died, and that they would take care of the burial. They would refuse to let her see the "dead" baby, nor know of when the funeral would be.

I bet they sometimes just took the baby, and then took her out to the firing squad.

Anyway. Upwards of 300,000 babies were stolen. This might be explained, by the amoral, as an over-reaction against threats the Powers-That-Be felt they faced, but as it continued up until the 1990's, it sounds as if it was part of the social fabric. A natural happening, with nothing wrong with it, in the eyes of the hospital staff, nuns, priests, and government leaders. :(

Something similar happened in Argentina, during its "dirty war" against union organizers, Leftists, etc.

Both Argentina and Spain call themselves Catholic nations, and when these crimes occurred, they were led by what most all of us would call "fascists". In fact, in the 1980's, Britain's leader, Margaret Thatcher, called Argentina a "Tin-pot fascist dictatorship". Isn't it ironic that folks who present themselves as the bulwark against threats to the family, would consider it God's work to take babies from their mothers?
