Just wondering how fast Christians tend to drive on the freeway, assuming the posted speed is 70 MPH, and traffic is light.

Queston three is the one that gets me. I drive about 150,000 miles per year(truck driver)and drivers that live in the left lane and also make right turns from the left lane is bad. I see many people killed from that style of driving.
By the way Atlanta,Ga. has the worst drivers in the country and my state(Florida) has the worst mix of drivers, either 80 mph or 35 mph and they all want to drive in the left lane at the same time!!!

Checkmate, we do not have highways here in NYS with 70 miles per hour speed. Although when we go down to Florida, the highways there are 70. [IMG]

Now to answer you question, of how fast we drive on a 70 MPH road, the answer is: 65 (that is the highest speed we have here)! ;)

When I drive, I grip the steering wheel and pray that I won't get hit.
I usually drive to the store or whatnot, but when I do go on the freeway, there is always this older person in front of me who will go regular speed and then promptly slow down so that I almost hit them. If that's not bad enough, there is unsually an aggressive driver behind me who will go over the speed limit and when I have to slow down will almost hit me.

That's why I prefer to take the bus.

    In Christ's gracious love,
    Teresa

When I am driving long distances, I like to wedge myself between two tractor trailers and put my car in cruise, and let the tractor trailers carry me.

    People hate riding with me.

    But Iam not a speeder.

    Posted speed is 70 MPH??

I'm glad when I see 65! Most highways around here are either 55 or 50! :(

As for my daily commute, I'd love to do 70 MPH to the train station. [IMG]

Unfortunately, most roads I have to take have a 30 or 25 MPH limit. :(

I agree that my home town has the worst drivers anywhere. The posted speed on our perimeter freeway is 55, but that means 65 in the slow lane and 80-85 in the fast lane. Growing up, I thought that people ignored the speed limits everywhere. I still remember getting a ticket as a teenager for doing 70 in a rural area where the posted speed limit was 55. I honestly didn't understand why I was getting the ticket.

The expressway speed limit here in Southern IL is 65... I've driven on the expressway with several people, and we're all a little different.

I do about 80, my husband does about 65 (And 80 on country roads...), my mother goes about.. 60, my cousin does 85, minimum, and my other cousin does about 100...

Where I live the speed limit on state roads is 60 mph and Interstate is 75 mph. Most do the speed limit here. I went to another state where the speed limit was 60 mph. Most of the drivers I would estimate were doing 70 to 75 mph by the way they passed me.

Let's just say that I have a New Yorker's approach to traffic laws: That is, that they are very good suggestions to live by. Suggestions being the key word there.

In reality, if traffic is moving at 75 MPH in a 55 zone, then I'll go 75. If a delivery truck is blocking the lane, I'll cross over the center line. Yellow lights means speed up before it gets red.

I am not a speeder, really.

But one night, I was up late at the church helping get ready for the children's musical. It was after midnight, and it had been a long day. I got on the highway, as I do at everyday. The speed limit is 60. I generally do 65 on a good night. I was clocked at 78 that night. Go figure.

When the cop stopped me, he asked me if I knew why he was stopping me. I said no, because I didn't realize I was speeding. He gave me a ticket that I couldn't just go pay--had to go to the magistrate to get it slapped down.

    ugh.

For Bible-believing Christians, why is speeding the chief [though not the only] law which makes the principles of Romans 13 disposable?

G'day, I couldn't do the poll for obvious reasons...You lot drive upside down and on the wrong side of the road and to top it off use miles which have been extinct here for ages ;)

As a professional driver (ok, a cabbie (YOU IN THE BACK, STOP LAUGHING, I'M SERIOUS))...ummm...where was I...Oh yeah...

Freeways in Oz are usually 110kmh, wayyyyyy too slow. Now 110mph would be nice...OK, maybe over-board there, 130-140kmh be about right.

Stupid governments can't get anything right, speed limits no exception. Within a few minutes drive from home I can go through 40-50-60-70-80-90-100-110kmh zones.

Saddest part is no matter how ridiculous the limit some seat warmer in parliament who has probably never driven a car himself has set, you gotta stick to it just in case there is a cop in wrong spot at wrong time..ARGH!!!!

Jehu didn't get booked...2 Kings 9:20 The lookout reported, "He has reached them, but he isn't coming back either. The driving is like that of Jehu son of Nimshi--he drives like a madman." (NIV) ;)

Ok, I got all that off my chest, I feel much better now..."G'day mate, where to?" ;)

    Pete

I'm from Xenia, Kansas. What's a 3-lane highway? We have predominately gravel roads and an occasional blacktop road. I have to admit, I usually go as fast as I want to because there is rarely any traffic out our way.

I'd say if your conscience bothers you for speeding, then don't speed.
Acts 24:16 "And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men." (KJV)

Traveling through Washington D.C. I've found that if I drive the speed limit I'm a hazzard. I get frightened having to change multiple lanes at a significantly slower speed than the surrounding traffic. Sppeding for life and limb/life or sin?

To really get anywhere from my house we are talking time. So I will admit I do speed.

    I drive about 80-85 on a 70.

    Nope, not a speeder here.

When I was 19, I was going somewhere, don't remember where now, but some clown when whizzing past me at about 100 mph, and low and behold there was some traffic up ahead that had to stop for some reason, and the guy slammed into a car, and kaboom, The car he hit burst into flames, and two passengers were burned to death. The horrible memory of that is still in my brain.

You all that think speeding is funny or necessary think about that next time.
