SS3 – The 5 major ministries and the 9 spiritual power gifts

Following is a super-short version of this information.

In the SS2 thread, we said the baptism with the Holy Spirit has absolutely nothing
to do with salvation, except that some people do receive both simultaneously.
This baptism is simply a special anointing given by Jesus.

The 5-fold ministry

“But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.
… And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists,
and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry,
for the edifying of the body of Christ …” (Ephesians 4:7-12)

Some other verses mention only the apostle and prophet as being leaders of the church.
So IMO, the NT churches were established by the apostles (esp. Paul) and prophets.
Evangelists went out and brought people into the churches where they were trained.
IMO, those in the 5-fold ministry in the NT churches had the baptism with the Holy Spirit.
But, this is not true today (please see “In conclusion” below).

The 9 spiritual power gifts

“Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant:
… There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries,
but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works
all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:
for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge
through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings
by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy,
to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues,
to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things,
distributing to each one individually as He wills.” (1 Corinthians 12:1-11)

IMO, those in the NT churches who had one or more of these spiritual power gifts
had the baptism with the Holy Spirit … because this is the situation today.

In conclusion

All of this was God’s original plan for the running and success of His churches,
and for the subsequent evangelization of the world.
But …
As explained in the SS1 thread, after the original apostles died off,
Satan deceived the leaders of the large church organizations into
insisting that God’s signs, wonders, and miracles had ceased.

And, of course, this was also claimed about the 5 major ministries and the 9 spiritual gifts.
Their main excuse was:
They had the Bible to follow, their leaders were specially anointed of God,
and therefore nothing else was needed!

Over time, the church has very gradually come to realize that this excuse was not valid.
