Oh goody! Just what we need. One more 'research' project to throw billions at with no end in sight.

We have scores of successes with adult stem cells already.
We have nothing but failures with embryonic stem cells.

"IF IT AIN'T BROKE....DON'T FIX IT"!!!

Yea, let's not spend money on something that might actually benefit mankind.

You seem more interested in the money than you do the people.

I am definitly for research that will make this possible without destroying embryos and causing the medical community to decide to destroy life in order to save it.

Amen to that... It seems like a God send of wisdom and knowledge to the medical community.

And YOU obviously missed the whole point.
We already have scores of successess with adult stem cell research and APPLICATION! And people ARE being helped right now.
If you want to save lives and help people then focus on what WORKS!
But then again, like most Americans, you probably are fascinated with what's new today more than with what has been working all along.

I don't think I missed the point. However, my point is, it's not a this or that proposition. Why don't we focus on all avenues and use whatever is beneficial in either.

All research should be private. Private companies will not invest money into research that is likely to fail like the goverment will.

I am interested in benefiting mankind - let's spend all those billions on leading people to a saving knowledge and faith in Jesus Christ.

Something that does and will matter for all eternity.

That isn't the function of government or corporations.

    Ken;
I agree with you on two fronts.
First, we ought to be placing our focus on avenues which could help those with health issues. Stem cells happens to be one of them. I think where we disagree is in this matter of getting those cells from a mother or child while she is pregnant. I realize this article is talking about amnyiotic cells. But I see it as still and invasion into the sanctity of life's beginnings. Amniosentesis (sp) is risky for a mother and child in the ifrst place , I am told. Why should we take that risk for the sake of research? We should not IMO.

Secondly; I think gov't should keep their big fat noses where they belong. Gov't has no business whatsoever in the Gospel or Great Commission. I would add that Gov't should stay out of funding health research. As someone else has said, business will invest if there is promise of success. We do not need Gov't in this matter. Asking Gov't to fund this or that is a spill over from Socialism. "Big Brother" will take care of you.
Someone long ago said that when the people figure out that they can legislate Gov't largesse they will destroy society with their greed. (or something similar, I forget the exact quote.)

My initial comment was sarcasm directed to this very point. We should eliminate all Gov't largesse.
