    Is the chick on the bottom left immodest? More importantly, was this considered immodest in the 1950's when it was taken? That was 60 years ago. Good chance that some of these ladies have died from old age by now.

    It interests me from a historical perspective. Not just this subject but others. Our ideas on what is bad changes with time and possibly place, and of course when you do that you are trying to change the definition of sin, but in reality you've done nothing but regurgitate the current ideas of modern morality from within the confines of your immediate environment. It's interesting.

    To be honest, the Bible tells women exactly how to dress:

    1 Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

    So my question is, since the OP mentioned a prom dress, is why are we singling out strapless dresses alone? Every single girl I have ever seen going to prom violates this verse.

    The reason I asked is because our local Christian school does allow strapless dresses for the girls for their formal events. It's pretty hard to find a modest, stylish formal gown these days, and some strapless dresses seem to be more modest than ones with sleeves.

    This is a gray area for hubby and I and our girls are now old enough for formal dress occasions. As their friends are wearing them, it's something that we will need to consider soon.

    If it were entirely up to me, I'd probably cover them in a tent and tag along with a shotgun in case any boys got too close, but hubby won't let me. :laugh:

    Been there, dealt with that. Glad it's behind us. A formal dress need not be a party dress. We were fortunate in that our youngest was inherently modest, the older one we had to keep an eye on at that stage.

    Its a quote from a Paul Washer sermon "Recovering Biblical Womanhood" the link was right below the quote, I'm sure you will squeeze in the time to read it or watch it between some world cup games.

    Regardless, I have observed that you disagree with about 99.5% of what everybody else posts, so I guess I'm in good company. :smilewinkgrin:
