    Diane, thanks for this post. I believe it is about as solid and scriptual as humanly possible. I started this post under my wife's name (which BB reprimanded me for it, a woman :rolleyes: )and wanted to hear other opinions outside my church. I asked a question about voting and as usual I got arguements about wife beating, husband telling wife not to go church, making wife bark like a dog. All issues that are against God's word in the treatment of the wife I believe. However my pt was in the issue of voting the husband may be wrong. Should not the woman listen to the husband and let him stand before God with that decision. Because as you said he will be held accountable. Anyways I see this has subject has digressed into what it usually does when this topic comes up. That women hate that word submission, I don't like it either in my life at times. Submission to authority, govenment, boss, pastor, God, but must yeld as God tells me in His word.
    It really is not an issue with my wife and I in everyday life. I don't make demands on her that I feel would go against what she believes God would have her do or how she should live. Honestly when a problem arises I usually submit to her discernment when it comes to the hearts of our kids or our christian friends and other areas. She usually is right in these areas. But make no mistake if I where to assert my God given authority as given in the Bible I have no doubt she would submit.
    I would like to say thanks to all who put thier time into this subject, there were some really great answers, and there where that where of the flesh. But all in all people can read and make thier own decisions. Hopefully before they marry a mate who may not agree with them on this issue.

    In the late 19th century, American Evangelical Christianity tried very hard to export the temperance movement to the rest of the world. They were making some nice progress in that endeavor untill they ran into Abraham Kuyper, a prominent orthodox Calvinist preacher, philosopher and politician. Kuyper was asked to endorse temporance, his response was: "*Christenen worden niet gevormd rondom de chocoladeketel!", basically derailing any further spread of the ideal with 1 sentence.

    *Roughly translated: Christians won't mature/can't be educated/won't grow spiritually around the chocolatemilk kettle!

    Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

    Christians who get drunk don't love Jesus. If you love Jesus, you shouldn't even look at the stuff. Aside from the foolishness that insists wine always refers to alcoholic drink, there is more than enough reason from scripture to shun alcohol as the devil's drink. If you want to justify drinking because of its cultural significance, I suggest you 'come out from among them' and start living like God told you to.

    Proverbs 31:4
    It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

    1Corinthians 6
    9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
    10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

    If you think that Jesus is going to have a kingdom full of drunks reigning with him, your blinded by that alcohol your poisoning yourself with.

    And just to stay on topic, wives submit yourselves unto your husbands. [​IMG]

    Diane, thank you for this wonderful story. Maybe if we here would spend more time doing what Jesus said instead of talking about what Jesus said there would be more stories of grace like this to read.

    He will answer to God for the right or wrong of it but she should obey him. That is the chain of command. However, that brings the question to mind, what if he told her to do something illegal or immoral. Should she do it just because he said so?

    No, she should obey God rather than her husband. I think that when her husband has required her to sin against God, he has stepped outside of his authority. She must answer to God before her husband.

    There's scripture to support what Terry just said but I'm just about brain dead from a full day at church, helping with Puppet Practice for grades 3-6, writing 'we missed you cards' to my AWANA children and 25 'High Attendance Sunday School' cards to my 4 year olds. If it comes to me before bed, I'll come back and post it.

    Meanwhile... Terry is correct. 'Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God, the things that are God's.'

    Amazing isn't it. I talk about wine&beer at dinner in other countries than my own in general terms and you immediatly accuse me of being a drunkard. :rolleyes:

    In the Bible wine can simply mean grape juice, or it can mean wine.

    Proverbs 23:31 is about how getting drunk is bad for you, especially if you do it on a regular basis.
    1Corinthians 6:10 is about drunkards not casual drinkers.
    Proverbs 31:4 is about the standards of behaviour of male royalty.
    Not very impressive prooftexts.

    It's the other way around. Some American subcultures see no difference between the occasional glass of wine/beer at dinner and hardcore alcoholism.

    I have posted a thread for the disscusion of wine if you want to carry it over there. As well as a thread based upon husbands loving thier wifes,and all (2) women that have posted so far have praised thier husbands as perfectly loving (they obviously married God fearing men) so if the husbands are holding up thier end of the bargin, and loving thier wife, then why aren't some of the women holding up thier end of the bargin, and submitting to thier loving husband?

    I agree Diane. By the way SaggyWoman God would like it if you Would use your mouth to glorify him instead of speaking of how men can be morons. After all throwing around such negative insults are hardly submissive do you not agree Diane?

    Saggywoman isn't married Fishnbread but I do believe men are marvelous creations and if we women do OUR part, ..... the rest will follow. [​IMG]
    There's a LOT of scripture that deals with nagging wives, loud women, etc!

    God speaks to me directly, though I appreciate you trying to tell me what God would like for me to do.

    I do use my mouth to praise God, but believe men who control their wives in such a fashion as this are morons. Not all men are morons. I love a good man. I love many men. I feel for many men.

    Not that I feel that Diane is directing this at me, because I don't, (hey, Diane).

    I am not a nagging woman, period. Loud. Hmmm. Not in the way you speak here. Most men I deal with seem to like dealing with me. I do not like to hen peck my men. In fact, the men I hold dear I am very good to.

    First of all I would like to thank you Diane for expanding my knowledge by granting me unknown imformation and I would also like to ask your forgiveness if I made think that I was saying that you agreed with SaggyWoman on the male moron issue. To SaggyWoman I have a question. are you saying that the Lord told you to say that about men?
