Our church does the service first, then Sunday school. We have done this for about 2 years, and will be switching back to Sunday school first sometime in the next month or so. Service first really doesn't work. Sometimes the sermon is long and Sunday school starts late, meaning people who only come for that will have to wait an unknown amount of time. Or the sermon may be short and those people come in halfway through unday school. Sadly, early service was done because some people wanted to be done with church early and have most of Sunday to do whatever else they wanted. Most of those have since left the church.
Also, people assume a Baptist church starts at 11:00. We have people turn up at that time often.
