This weeks lesson is coming from 2 Peter 2, dealing with false teachers. 1st. I was wondering if any of you have the same lesson, on to my question.
My definition of a false teacher would be any one who teaches anything that adds to or takes away from scripture, Hinn, Copeland, and such.but I was also thinking of people such as Olsteen, according to 2Tim.2:4 & Gal.1:9 would he also be considered a false teacher. Your thoughts.

Heavy but excellant topic for these times.....but, sorry, no: My lesson is not on that.

However, interesting in 2 Peter 3:15-16, is the passage which pertains to the settlement of the rift between Peter and Paul. Of greater importance, I believe, is Peter's mention of the epistles of Paul, endorsing them, and placing them on par with other scriptures. (Usefull in discussion where questions are brought up about the scriptures recognizing and supporting other scriptural text.)

I'm reluctant to pass a general judgement of others based on one thing I hear or read.....because of uncertainties in myself concerning fairness, and whether or not I correctly heard/read the content. Unfortunately or not, the leaders which you mention hold no interest for me personally, so I'm not acquainted with with their writings nor have I tolerated sufficient episodes of their preaching/teaching to know what they said. I do know Hinn has a 'SSSSSSSSS' sound he loves to use and for some reason it reminds me of a snake (the sound) giving warning just before it strikes.

I'm trying to remind myself that in many words is often sin.......So I'll quit for now.:tear:

I saw a program on CNN about Popov being back in the preaching business with his miracle water and sea salt from Israel, and then early this morning saw an actual "church" service with members talking about how they had received large amounts of money after drinking miracle water.

When I think of "false teacher" I think of "lost preacher" or "counterfeit preacher." I simply had not thought of it, before today, as someone who is sometimes in error. placing that one in a separate category; and even then, sub-categories (I sometimes disagree with something my pastor says during a Sunday morning sermon, for example).

Methinks that the church, including me, needs to read 2 Peter 2 more often! At the same time, I would be very cautious about judging a pastor.

Joel Osteen's preaching has a tinge of the Positive Confession theology in it, which I think is mistaken.

As far as whether he preaches a false gospel or not, I can't say. I've never heard him preach any gospel at all.

Concerning next weeks lesson, the false teachers Peter was talking about were within the church, not the church across town or another denomination. Since there were many Elders within each church (not a single pastor as today), Peter was warning that some may be false teachers.

Paul also warns about false teachers within the church at Ephesus in Acts 20:30 where he warns that even within your own number, some false teachers will arise.

Ah yes, I use the EXPLORE THE BIBLE curriculum from
Lifeway. I've been teaching this curriculum since it started
like 18 years ago (or so).

I have an interesting class, six of the 7 usual members could
be the teacher, but I am. The other guy has a speech
challenge, so for all I know he also knows more than
    I do on the subject.
