My local public radio is currently having it's semiannual fundraiser. I have contributed for the past two years as I enjoy "Bluegrass Breakdown", "To the Point", and I listen some to "Morning Edition" and "All Things Considered". Do you contribute to your local public radio station to help keep it on the air?

I must confess I have been guilty of enjoying some public radio without contributing.

I got burnt on Public TV. The week when they try to get you to pledge money, Public TV showed extra of my two favorite shows (Dr. Who and Blakes 7 - came on Saturday one after the other starting at 10:30PM). I pleged $30. They cut the shows. Sorry, if i pay money to keep the shows, i want the shows kept.

My local public radio station keeps its regular programming during its fund drives. I just don't get to hear the entire programs as they cut in for about 10 minutes at a time to talk about the fund drive and announce people who have donated by phone or online. I got to hear my name on the radio yesterday. [IMG]

The idea of interrupting is to speed along the drive toward the goal. The sooner the goal is reached the sooner we don't have our favorite programs interrupted.

Being free-market in my outlook, if the public stations are not able to find a market that will support the programming that they want to put on, then in my mind they don't get to be on. I listen all the time to public radio, but refuse to contribute.

Although I don't listen to it, I totally agree with G2C.

Besides that, I also resent the fact that I am forced to, as a taxpayer, fund public radio that mostly has programming that I don't like, and then they are begging me for more money in a fundraiser.

You at a couple of tables? You must have a strong stomach.
