The U.S. Supreme Court has heard arguments about the meaning of the Second Amendment and the Districts of Columbia's ban on handguns. A majority appears to support the view that the amendment protects an individual's right to own guns, rather than somehow linking right to service in a state militia. But it is less clear what that means for the District's 32-year-old ban on handguns, perhaps the strictest gun control law in the nation.

With criminals like Marion Barry running ariound D.C., folks should be allowed to arm themselves.

I'm hope they overturn that unconstitutional ban. It will make the District of Columbia much safer.

When the government bans guns, only the lawbreakers have guns and those who obey the government are left relatively defenseless. The police are not able to protect individual citizens effectively since it usually takes, at best, 3-5 minutes to arrive at a crime scene. Three minutes is a very long time if you or your family are being robbed, raped, beaten, or murdered.

Very few criminals want to face down citizens who are potentially armed and ready to defend themselves.

Word has it around here (AL) that if the ban holds, our legislature will in its session declare that every single resident of Alabama not guilty of a felony may count themselves as members of the "Alabama auxiliary militia." That way, we're all covered.

Ah, the District of Columbia....the Berkeley of the East Cost.

Then you Alabama folk will be ready to invade those heathens in Mississippi and Georgia, to be known forevermore as West 'Bama an East 'Bama respectively.
