I would think you are right. To treat it otherwise may give him reason to rebel and not listen to anyone. Many a child who came from legalistic homes leave the faith or disregard their roots.

Children whose roots are in legalism and liberalism leave that all of the time.

I am working with a couple now where the husband came from a RCC background and his wife grew up in a legalistic Baptist home. She told us that she knows very little about the Bible because she was not taught the Bible but went to church every Sunday and heard the shout stomp and spit.

If y'all could please stop the legalism debate for a minute, I'd like to interject something here that is being overlooked completely by almost everyone on this thread. Shift your focus from your opinions about proms and think for a minute about this:

WHY IS THIS CONSIDERED NEWSWORTHY ENOUGH TO BE PUT IN THE NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT?

I believe this is the beginning of a media-led, leftist assalt on Christian schools and our freedom to educate our children the way we see fit. Do you not see what is happening here? If the media can cast Christian schools as evil, discriminating religious nuts, they can stir up public disgust and slowly remove our freedoms in religious education.

Christian schools have had rules for years. Big deal. The real reason this is in the news is to attack us Christians and further advance Obama's socialist agenda. Think about it!

While you have a good point it seems that the school was not consistent in its approach. That is what was probably newsworthy.

I agree. It seems strange to me that this has moved from a discussion/debate on the actions of the student to a discussion on what is acceptable/moral and what is not. Even if the policy was not perfectly clear, I am sure the student and his parents understood the intent.

All that aside, the non-Christian media and politicians will have gained a victory if Christians can't even agree on the personal responsibility of the student in question. Non-believers are over joyed when Christians engage in useless battles. Please, lets get back to the real issue.:1_grouphug:
