According to one person, there was information on the back page of the Sept 21 edition the The Sword of Lord newspaper about a Sword of the Lord KJB Conference.

Jan. 16-18, 2008 at Franklin Road Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, TN

    • Making the case for an inspired, inerrant, infallible Bible in the English language.
    • Is the King James text the Word of God?
    • What's the big deal over rejecting the new versions?
    • Who were Westcott and Hort? And where did they go wrong?
    • Why a standard text is so necessary
    • Rebutting the extremism of double inspiration, etc.
    • Combating the craze of contemporary "scholarship"
    • Communicating effectively with the "any version will do" crowd.

    Speakers:
    Dr. Shelton Smith
    Dr. Don Jasmin
    Dr. Raymond Barber
    Dr. David Sorenson

If this is true, it is soo sad to see them stray so far from their foundation that they would accept and promote this doctrine....

    I hope you are mistaken.

Someone had posted the information about the Sword KJB Conference on the internet. Since John of Japan had indicated that he had been receiving the Sword the last year and a half, I thought that he or someone else would know whether this conference had been advertized in THE SWORD. Perhaps THE SWORD OF THE LORD is not actually hosting the conference. The person may have been mistaken in identifying it as a "Sword KJB Conference" just because he saw the ad in the SWORD. Shelton Smith, its editor, was listed as one of the speakers for it.

Don Jasmin, one of the other listed speakers, is definitely KJV-only. His newsletter [I think it was called FUNDAMENTALIST DIGEST] that I received a few years ago often had KJV-only articles.

    I Hope It Is True

:applause: I hope that the Sword of the Lord WILL take a positive stand against the modern "versions". It would be nice to see them take a stand for the KJV and not go the route of compromise and corruption that seems to characterize organizations that abandon the faithful and true Word of God(KJV) for the faulty so-called scholarship of modern textual criticism and virtually EVERY modern translation and version on the "market" today. The Modern Versions are simply all about $$$$$$ and how much of it the publishing companies can make in the "guise" of more "readable" and "understandable" modern english. The truth is..."the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God...."1Cor.2:14a. If they actually do have that conference I'd love to go!!

Just wow. You'd figure they'd make a computer program to catch garbage like this post before it ended up on a screen.

    BTW...the last 3 KJV's I got.......I had to pay for them!!!! It's all about the $$$$ isn't it???

Hey Mr. Perry, don't let the truth get in the way of a good rant, OK?

    We All Have Our Opinion

 Mr.Bell...we all have our opinions and that was mine....you are entitled to yours as well. I just personally believe that monetary profit is the main motive of most,if not all,of the publishing companies and translating committees of our day and age. Any kid with a good Websters dictionary can read and understand the KJB if he or she is SAVED and desires to know the truth.....AND YOU KNOW THAT IS TRUE. NEITHER the KJV or the Holy Spirit are "antiquated" OR "archaic". In this case OLDER IS BETTER. But......that is MY opinion. Everyone else is entitled to be wrong if they wish:laugh: .

    God Bless You...!

    Conference Info

Here is a cut and paste of the info about the above mentioned Conference found on SOTL's website taken off of Shelton Smith's Itinerary page from the "editors notes". I Tried to post a link but it would'nt let me:

    Announcing Our Scripture Text Conference
    January16–18 Here in Murfreesboro
You’ll see an ad on page 24 in this issue with some of the details. I hope you will consider getting in on this.
Dr. Raymond Barber, Dr. Mike Norris, Dr. David Sorenson, Dr. Don Jasmin and I will provide both preaching and teaching, all of which will address some aspect of the Scripture text issues.
I suppose the Bible has always been a focus of debate, but never has the battle been so widespread as it now is.
It amazes me that even in Christian circles there are so many who in one way or another dilute and diminish the text of Scripture. They simply cannot bring themselves to say that we have an inspired text preserved for us in the English language.
Let me hasten to say, I am well aware that there are a lot of good, sincere Christians who simply do not know the whole story. In the past quarter century there has been an enormous amount of research done on the textual issues. The preponderance of evidence is overwhelming. Therefore, we cannot simply act as though any old thing will do. No, we must stand up. We must present what we believe to be true.
Now I know that some will say that we are “going off the deep end.” No, not at all! The position that I hold today is the same one I have held for many, many years. In conferences nationwide and on the pages of the sword of the lord, I have said openly and often that I am a King James Bible advocate and enthusiast.
Awhile ago one well-intentioned brother said to me, “If you’re not careful, you’re going to paint yourself into a corner on this Bible issue.” I said to him then, “It is the corner where I’ve been seated for years.”
I can’t imagine going to the pulpit to preach without the assurance that the Book I hold in my hands is, in fact, the literal Word of Almighty God, inspired, preserved and our full and complete authority.
I’ve invited some men who are well versed on the matter and who will help us in both the pulpit and workshops to make the case we believe should be made. They are:
    1. Dr. Raymond Barber. Trained under Dr. J. Frank Norris, Dr. Barber is an articulate preacher and a strong advocate for the Authorized Text, the King James Bible.
    2. Dr. David Sorenson. Author of Touch Not the Unclean Thing and Independent Baptist Commentary as well as the pastor of Northstar Baptist Church in Duluth, Minnesota for 18 years, Dr. Sorenson is a seasoned and scholarly servant of God.
    3. Dr. Mike Norris. Our pastor at Franklin Road Baptist Church here in Murfreesboro, Dr. Norris is a charming speaker and a man of great convictions.
    4. Dr. Don Jasmin. Dr. Jasmin is an evangelist and the editor of the Fundamentalist Digest. He is a gifted journalist and is well versed on the textual issues.
    5. I will also speak several times throughout the conference.
Now, I’m excited! What a privilege we have in a world that is hostile to God and everything connected to Him. We can stand and say with assurance, “Here in my hand is the authoritative Word of God.”
In a time when so many Christians are staggering philosophically and theologically because they do not know whether or not there is a valid text of Scripture, we are privileged to stand up unashamedly and unreservedly to say, “This Book is the Word of God, verbally and plenarily inspired and wondrously preserved for us in this English text.”
We’ll start on Wednesday night and go morning, afternoon and evening on Thursday and until 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
There are no registration fees! Just come! If you can be prepared to help with the offering, that will be helpful, but you know you’re welcome whatever you can or cannot do.
There are a dozen or more hotels and motels right off Franklin Road within a mile (or less) of the church.
Pastors, you may want to bring some of your people too. The better informed they are, the better off you are.
If you need assistance with your arrangements, call our conference department here at the Sword of the Lord, and our workers will gladly help you any way they can (800-247-9673).
Here is a list of some of the hotels.
    1. Country Inn & Suites, 2262 Armory Drive, 615-890-5951

Please keep to the topic of the conference and not your feelings about a translation. We have a forum for that discussion.

Posters, please do not get sidetracked by the quoted post. This could be a good discussion and I don't want to close it because of an attempt to promote one persons view on the translation issue.

What, about 8-9% of the world's population speak English? Why don't they spend the time and money on a good missions trip instead?

Is KJVOism the official stand now of the Sword of the Lord on the doctrine of the Bible?

I guess I am asking this:

Is the SOTL sponsoring the event, or did they just accept advertising from the event?

If they do not support the event, but only took advertising, then they should not be looked upon as KJVO. Just because a media publication advertises something, doesn't mean it supports it.

But if they support KJVOism, then the readership that doesn't should let them know. And if they refuse to change, then cancel subscriptions.

Of course having seen the IFB trend over the last 10 yrs here in the states, Their subscription rates will soar if they come out completely KJVO.

I wish there was a way to poll IFBers.. because I suppose that most modern IFBers are KJVO. That is the image anyway. Of course images can be deceiving.

According to this information at their website, this would seem to be indeed a KJV Conference not just advertized in the SWORD, but officially promoted or sponsored by THE SWORD OF THE LORD. Shelton Smith referred to it as "our Scripture Text Conference."

This information from the SWORD'S own web site also clearly confirms that this conference is sponsored by the SWORD.

Then if the SOTL is promoting KJVOism, they have really stuck their necks out... Of course it may pay off for them in the end. But it is sad to me to see what once was a great paper under Dr. Rice, who was not KJVO, be so careless in the doctrines they now promote. But it is their paper, and they can choose what they stand for...

But be aware that readers will also show what they stand for by $.

I was thinking someone here, a woman, works for the SOTL, I just can't remember who... It would be nice to hear from someone on the "inside."

They apparently reject the extreme position held by radical KJVOs because one of the topics scheduled to be addressed is "Rebutting the extremism of double inspiration, etc."

I'm sure this conference will not be embraced by Ruckman and his like. I would assume that it will deal with a comparison of the textual basis of the various versions.

I am going to make every effort to attend this conference.

Will you be the official reporter for the BB? Report back here and let us know what went on?

This has the potential of being a great thread.

I'm not sure that my brothers here on the BB would consider me an impartial observer on the text issue. I will, however, be glad to share my observations.

Actually I've found your observations to usually be valid
and always be superior to 'the competition'. So I pray
you will get to attend AND give some reports for our
consideration. Bias is always easier to deal with
than wishy-washy -- so your bais is a known quanity
offset in the positive direction by the things we know
    that I mentioned in
the first sentence of this paragraph. And I suspect
wish-washy-ness is alien to your personality.
    So we will wait patiently.

No reasoning person here would question your ability to report fairly. Thanks in advance
