Donna I think maybe you misunderstood my point. I am not saying you do not have the right to make that choice. By all means you have that right.

My point is that people should not make their "preference" or their "choice" a standard for others.

There is no way a person can make a Biblical case that one hole in an ear is ok, but to have your belly button, etc pierced is wrong.

I would say God has a choice. The Bible teaches us we are His possession.

We don't have a right to put holes in our bodies.

Where does it say this? Where is the scripture saying that it defiles<sp> the Temple of the Lord to have an earring?

I am not for or against it, but I can't see where it says anything about it in the Bible other than people throwing the Temple of the Lord verse around.

Pastor, I think you've hit it. I also think this statement applies to alot of other things other than Tatoos and Piercings...

    1 Corinthians 6:19,20

1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
1 Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price
: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

I am just curious, if it is not a sin to put more holes in the body than what God originally put in it, why would Paul have thrown in this verse? Why not just say God purchased your soul?

I am not sure this verse explains it to me, at least not in the context of a piercing.

I understand that God created us, Jesus paid our price, and so we are not our own, but I don't think this verse deals with a piercing. At this moment, I can't make the jump you're making.

I will study it some, but I have a question while I study..

    Notes after studying the verse:

Ok, I did study this passage, and in context, it's NOT talking about piercings.

This passage is talking about sexual sins. So although it seem to fit, it doesn't fit this topic, so I ask again, which verse shows that we are not to pierce our body?

I did a research of this scripture:

Lev 19:28 "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD."

I did cross reference and it all points to cutting your flesh for the dead and methods of mourning. Like this scripture came up when I cross referenced.

Deu 14:1 "Ye are the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead."

As for piercings....I think there is a scripture about slaves having their ear pierced to show they were owned. But I can't think nor find that scripture.

That's the only thing I can come up with. So the scriptures really don't say anything about piercings or tattoos (as long as it's not for mourning the dead).

Found you that passage about piercing, Erin. Exodus 21:5-6 talks about marking a bond-slave by punching their ear with an awl against the door post. Ouch!

Yes slaves were pierced through the ear as a sign of love and servitude for their master for ever.

Now, that being said, how many that are being pierced are a servant of the person doing the piercing? and that, a servant for life?

I notice a few things here.

    1. The Master does the piercing.
    2. It is a male being pierced, not a female. hmmm
    3. It is only one ear being pierced, not two.
    4. Once the man has that ear pierced, he is a
servant to the master for life.

    true, Jim.

And when I was a young lad, men looked odd with an earring too.

I never had what it took to have my ear pierced. That's why I wore a clip-on.

Not sure how kindly I would take to a boss who drave an awl through my ear after I told him I wanted to continue working for him though!
