What do you think of the proposal to stimulate the economy that includes the tax rebate for some Americans?

    Ambivalent.

We're overtaxed, IMO...and so giving me back my money brings warm fuzzies.

On the other hand, this is nothing but an election-year, vote-buying scheme, and both parties are doing it to garner favors with the American people.

It would be a lost cause, anyway, if folks did with their money what I'll do with mine...It's going into savings for a while. So if a recession truly hits, blame Rbell. And his wife.

Anytime there is a shift of money from the government to the private sector, it is a good thing.

I think it could be a good thing. And all 12 of my children agree! (Thats 300. each isnt it?)

Just kidding about the 12 kids, anymore than two and the wife and I are out numbered!

We have 4 kids and if we're eligible for it all, that means we'll walk away with $2400! Not sure what we'll do with all of it but some will finish paying down the HELOC we have - maybe put it in savings for emergencies??

It'll be my luck, there will be a provision that will disqualify pastors!

Funny, I always owe on my taxes at the end of the year. Guess where my rebate will go? (Back into savings to make up for the amount spent paying my taxes. Don't you just love self-employment tax?) What a dud I was not to opt out of paying that ungodly tax. I could have invested that 15% in a good retirement fund and paid on a disability plan and come out far better than uncle will ever do. Shoot, I'm 42. There won't be any SS left when I retire especially if the Dem's get more power and get their grubby, entitlement happy, income redistributing hands on it.

Careful now; this definition includes welfare, subsidies, PORK,-----.

I think what you really mean is "CUT TAXES/REFUND TAXES", is it not?

Yes, that is what I mean. The former is government-sanctioned theft, to a certain degree.

Agreed with Andy. But the money belongs to the people anyway, and the money should never have been collected in the first place. Real tax reform would stimulate the economy much more than a one time check.

I'm actually getting more back this year than I ever have, and that is without our daughter as a deduction.

I'll take all the money they want to give me. i pay in extra through the year so I will get a return. Yeah, I could invest it and make the interest, but not if it gets spent first. ;)

I'm looking at $1800. With my wife losing her job at 34 weeks pregnant, a new mouth to feed, and 2 defaulted business loans, it will come in VERY handy!

    Thank you God!:godisgood:

Here's a quote from the first paragraph of the article.

"The fate of $600-$1,200 rebate checks for more than 100 million Americans is in limbo after Senate Republicans blocked a bid by Democrats to add $44 billion in help for the elderly, disabled veterans, the unemployed and businesses to the House-passed economic aid package."

In other words, they voted against raising this by another $44 billion (with a B). Sorry, don't disagree with them on this one. All this would do is add another $44 billion to the defiicit.

And why are we giving tax rebates to those who never paid any taxes??

Isn't it true that the dems want to give money to people who didn't even pay taxes or, at least, would get back all they paid in? Consider also, if they have children, they already get the earned income credit. Not only do they already get back all the money they paid in, they are given even more.

The dems purposely put this welfare provision in there, knowing it was blatantly irresponsible, and also knowing the repubs would oppose it, thus giving the dems ammunition against those nasty repubs who only want to help the rich, etc., etc., blah, blah, blah. Politics at its finest.
