Televangelists' reportedly lavish lifestyles draw senator's scrutiny

    By DARREN BARBEE
    Star-Telegram Staff Writer

Multimillion-dollar televangelism empires built by Kenneth Copeland and Benny Hinn, both with ties to Tarrant County, and four other ministries face a congressional inquiry spurred by reports of lavish mansions, Rolls-Royces and private jets.

U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley said he wants to ensure that the tax-exempt organizations are accountable to donors. Representatives for both locally based evangelists said Tuesday that they operate within the law.

None of the governments business. It seems perfectly legal for these charlatans to milk the gullible citizen. If these citizens would understand their Bibles, instead of understanding the propaganda from these people, this issue would disappear. PT Barnum pegged it, if he actually did say, “There's a sucker born every minute”.

We can't have these T.V. faith healers and preacher boys taking advantage of the poor American suckers out there, that's the job of our government servants.

If they are breaking the law, they should be held accountable.

    You are right and wrong.

There are godly people sitting in churches weekly who think that their denominational leaders are godly men and are leading according to God's word. While at the same time those leaders are engaged in ungodliness

Even Paul wrote things which were hard to understand.

So many denominations have politicians as leaders and not men and women who are currently making disciples. When was the last time anyone heard a prospective pastor asked about the disciples he has made and especially any denominational leaders?

You know, I understand what you are saying and I agree with it to a point. It is perfectly legal. However, I think these charlatans should, at the least, lose their tax exempt status, and if they are breaking any exiting laws, they should be prosecuted.

If your standard for buying a car is equivalent to what a semi truck/tractor manufacturer offers then every car manufacturer shoud be prosecuted due to their lack of giving the public any kind of value.

When was the last time an American worker got a pay raise equivalent to the increase in the price of gasoline?

Or the Democrats or both. Does it make a difference? They are both the same to me.

My point concerns those men that amass untold millions of dollars, and lead ungodly life styles, who are supported by people that watch them from their easy chairs. As the point of the OP presents.

While I could agree in principal, because of my anger at these folks and the damage they do to the Body of Christ. I wouldn't take the tax exempt status away, because of it's value to the Church. Though I do not like the strings attached with that exemption. Yes, prosecute if in violation of the law.

I believe he's trying to say people aren't given a fair raise in pay to help out with the rate of inflation.

Living in a free democratic society does not always mean pure ethical decisons are made for the benefit of the people in society.
