Ok, Moria2 tells us about your day...how warm it is. We were freezing over here.

I was too tired to post my day last night. It was a happy tired though. We had 13 people to dinner. We ate all the traditional things and probably most of the non traditional things, too.

I rememebered last night after I was in bed " I forgot the catsup" Ed couldn't understand why I needed catsup after going to bed. You see one of my grandson's asked for catsup. I said I would get it for him and that was the first time I remembered. He was very polite and didn't ask me again or remind me that I was to get the catsup.

The groups kept leaving for other obligations, but one grandson and one grandaughter stayed until about 9 last night.

Grandson took over my computer. Granddaughter painted pictures and then we put up the Christmas tree and some outside lights. The tree is not complete, but we have lights on it.

It was a wonderful day. First Thanksgiving in our new home with our extended family. [IMG] [IMG]

Today, we had an adventure. We got up early to take one grandson to an activity at his church which is about 20 miles away. We met him at our son's store. Took two grandsons. We didn't know the way, but had a map. Lovely morning for an outing, but would have been nice to sleep late.

The parking lots are full at Target, Kohls, the Mall. (Later we went to the Dollar Store, not very many people shopping there. I had to have a plastic box to store thanksgiving stuff in)

Well, to make a long story shorter, the activity was cancelled. No one at the church. So we had a nice round trip with two grandsons who are cousins and for once were not fighting with each other. They are both 12. The have always been very competitive, but good friends.

We're back home and it is nap time. As soon as we rest, we are putting away thanksgiving and getting ready for Christmas.

    See you all later. [IMG]

I'm trying to get my wife (Thankful)
to settle down from a bout of laughing.
A couple or three months ago we moved
in our town. One of the free "new home
owner" goodies we could apply for was
a "free" FIRST AID KIT from the local, nay
    from the nearby REGIONAL HOSPITAL.
The first aid kit arrived today.

It contains [IMG] a package with two baby
    (325mg) asprin;
    two antiseptic toweletts
    1 large bandage pad
    4 middle size bandages
    2 small bandages

That is all. Well, there is a sheet of
first aid insturctions. They are written
so small i double it once could read them
    if their child hurt themselves?

Thankful says she got a map of the Hospital
    also, as an unexpected bonus.

    To late to edit.
    I said: "They are written
so small i double it once could read them
    if their child hurt themselves?"

    I should have said:
    "They are written
so small i doubt if one could read
    the instructions
    if their child hurt themselves?"

    Neither!! I'm "puttering"!!

I got all the crystal, china and silver we used yesterday put away. The crystal and china were what my parents got when they got married. They had a complete service for 12, so my brother and I split it, giving each of us services for 6. Well, today as I was putting it away, I looked at the back of it and have been on the internet trying to figure out what the pattern is. It's lovely, delicate pink roses, made by Theodore Haviland, New York. So I've found out all kinds of things about Theodore Haviland China Company, but have YET to find the pattern!!

It's been interesting...they married in 1942, so the china would probably be considered "antique"; to me, it's priceless! I also have some pieces of china I got from my grandmother, and it was made in 1900! In fact, I found THAT pattern on the internet!

My mom's china has been in a box in my closet for 3 years. In order to get it all put away where I can get to it occasionally, I of course, had to rearrange some stuff, so my kitchen and cabinets have been a real mess!! Not exactly what I had planned today, but it's done and feels really good!

Occasionally, we just need a day to "putter", don't we?? [IMG]

No...the pattern is more "subdued" (not that bold). It's little pink roses, and has little blue ribbons tied into bows interspersed in the roses.

Great pictures, though! I couldn't get anything to show that CLOSE UP!!

Here's the china I have from my grandmother. And I have the piece shown.

    Roman V

I only have a few pieces of that...a couple of saucer-size plates, and a serving bowl.

However, my mom's china has all kinds of pieces. I have little bowls with a handle on each side, cups for coffee, and cups that are a little flatter than coffee cups. I have saucers and 3 sizes of plates. (Sorry...don't know a lot about the names of china pieces!!) I just think it would be fun if I could find the name of the pattern. She probably told me at some point, but I don't remember.

I enjoy using the different plates occasionally for toast or blueberry cake!! :D

CJ That's so interesting about your china and I looked at the pictures. Beautiful!
    So I looked for mine:
    Betty's China

    I have a set given to me by my aunt. I can't find it, but I am still searching;

It is Winterling Bavaria Germany - Valley Rose

    Tiny little roses. Very pretty.

I decorated the tree and the house today.

I think I said on another thread that I could do it in 4 hours....NO WAY. I started yesterday with the help of grandchildren and I'm still not through. I have lost one box of decorations, must be in the attic. But it is beginning to look like Christmas around here.

Ed put lights on the front hedge and a spiral tree in the front yard. Tomorrow, he is going to put up icicle lights.

I'm going searching for my other set of china.

Last summer we had a mid life clutter crisis. We had accumulated so much during 18 years of marriage. Some of it was even older than that. We weren't taking care of things very well and I was growing more and more frustrated with it. I really am a neat freak at heart but it's hard to do when you live with others who don't care as much about it. You are always stepping over someone elses mess to get to your own. Anyway I kinda snapped this summer and just started carrying things out of the basement one day, not realizing what I was getting myself into. It was a filthy musty dusty mess. My husband followed suit and emptied the garage. We filled our roadside dumpster 3 times, another large trash can 3 times, dried out at least a dozen cans of old latex paint to put at roadside, had a trailerfull hauled away and took a load of stuff to a hazardous waste disposal. How does this relate to "what did I do today?" Well when I went to get my Christmas stuff out it was so nice because it was all neatly labeled in storage boxes on nice new shelves in the basement. I had gone thru all of it, got rid of about half of our old Christmas decorations that we never used or didn't really like anymore, tested all the Christmas lights, coiled them neatly, and boxed and labeled everything. I just carried the boxes upstairs, got what I needed and took the rest back down. I haven't put up the tree yet but when I do I can be reasonably certain that all the lights in the box work and they are neatly coiled and ready to use. The rest of my house looks pretty nice most of the time too now that we have gotten rid of so many things that we don't use anymore. Just don't look in my daughters room.

Organization makes for a peaceful home!

    I can relate.

A few years ago,my husband and I invested in a bunch of Christmas storage containers(rubbermaid). I have everything labeled, packed away in nice neat boxes with red lids that are stacked and ready to open. I know exactly what is in all of them. I ,also, keep all my old Christmas wrapping paper...it is there and ready when I need it. It makes decorating so much easier!

We decorated one of our trees yesterday and it was easy because we knew exactly which boxes go with what tree and can just get out what we need....today,we are going to get the front of the house done. I already have the Christmas wreath out...still have to add garland around the front door, white lights, gold glittery ribbon, large gold ornaments in the garland and lights to the small spruce trees I have in large black urns. It looks really pretty from the street. I would like to purchase a couple of reindeeer for the front porch that are made out of the twigs...have you seen these? They are so pretty, with large bows around the neck and very natural looking, not *Santa* looking. I have found some that are $150 a piece  ...I'm going to look around to see if I can find some less expensive ones...I just don't need to spend that much on reindeer!!!!

Also,we have a little afternoon party to go to today,so we do a little shopping later in the day when we get out for the party. We will probably eat out this evening.

    Have a wonderful day!

I can relate too ralb and Mollly I can't find a box of Christmas decorations. [IMG]

I thought after the move I had them stacked neatly in the garage (not attic) We will put them in the attic after Christmas, but one box is missing. It has to be in the attic. So we are going to look today.

ralb Approximately two years ago, I made room for new husband and step son in my house.

I had a four bedroom house all to myself. You can imagine. I had to clean out two closets and one entire room.

Now my husband had a three bedroom house (and attic) Thenk goodness we don't have basements here. He had lived in this house 27 years. We had to combine his stuff with my stuff.

Then last summer, we decided it was time to have our house...so here we go again. I gave so much stuff to the youth's garage sale that no one else had to donate ;)

Someone reminded me that we carry a little bit into our houses each week and then when we move, we have to move it all or get rid of some.

I like to be neat, too and know where everything is, but I wonder how long I can blame the move on not being neat or knowing where it is.

I did receive a compliment from one of the church ladies when she came to my house after we had only been here three weeks. She thought we had lived here a long time. Was that good or bad? Good, I think!

Oh, you should see our Christmas Tree. It is beautiful with ornaments we have collected in that last two years and then red and gold ornaments. Colored lights.

I saw a lighted nativity scene I would like to have in the front yard. A little pricey. Maybe next year, (or not)

I did "online" shopping today!! You can get some really good deals...and occasionally "free shipping"! I REALLY dislike the crowds at the stores and malls. :(

Found the closest thing to my mom's china on the internet today. The picture is OK; and still don't know the name of the pattern, but the shapes and detail (what you can see of it) look the same. This has been kinda fun! Will do more digging when I have time!

    PICTURE

Have been working on a project for my pastor, and I'm about "PowerPointed" out for awhile! Not finished yet, but I can see light at the end of the tunnel!! [IMG]

Last night, my husband and I went on a date. We have two teenage sisters from church that keep our kids, and they think they practically live here. They spent the night with us last night, and then they stayed for the Thanksgiving meal we hosted for my husband's family. Then they somehow talked me into taking them to the mall. It was a MAD house. Then I took them home afterward, came home to a freshly let fire and a hubby ferrying Christmas decorations. We cooked a frozen pizza and fries and ate while watching The Santa Claus movie (the first one). Then I had to watch Sleeping Beauty with my daughters. It was real sweet. After they all went to bed, I sneaked (I always say "snuck", but I am told that's not a word [IMG] )into the kitchen and got the last piece of sweet potato pie with cool whip, and I ate it in front of the fire place, just me. It was awesome. I actually got to eat the whole thing!! Now here I sit with my cup of tea!

I refuse to participate in the Black Friday morning madness. There was a woman injured here in Michigan (she had to be airlifted out) at a Walmart, she was trampled when the doors were opened. I did take my daughter and a friend out later in the day but that was after the initial frenzy was over. It was crowded but calm. I really don't enjoy shopping much anymore. There is so much out there and most stores leave me feeling confused and claustrophobic. After feeling "deprived" of things as a teenager (4 siblings) I spent way too much money on clothes and junk as a young adult. I wasted a lot of money and created a lot of clutter. I don't like shopping unless I really need something and I know exactly what I'm looking for. Shopping will be pretty easy this year. We don't buy for adults (except spouse and parents), we know what we are getting for our daughter, and the nieces and nephews will probably get gift cards. I really don't need anything myself and would rather save the money for something big that we really need for the house or family (I would like a new sofa).
