Aaron, I believe that homosexuality is a grievous sin. It's in the bible. Plain and simple.

Therefore, those in bondage to that lifestyle are rebelling against God. Those that are in open defiance against God cannot be saved. Homosexuality does not send you to hell all by itself, but refusing to obey God's commands does.

With that being said, there will be an ocean of homosexual people in hell.

Fred Phelps will be right there with them!

I've seen his website and read some of his essays. The terminology he used to describe American soldiers, Katrina victims, etc.....is absolutely pornographic.

He says that if we pray for our country that we are sinning against God. He says that God hates all Americans.

Just because the man doesn't like homosexuals, doesn't make him on God's side nor does it make him a "man" speaking out on God's behalf.

Fred Phelps' grotesque and obscene message of hatred towards many people is just as vile and deadly as any message of pro-homosexuality.

But in the same breath just because you don't like the man doesn't make him unsaved either. Do you know Fred Phelps and whether or not he has accepted the Substitutionary death and shed blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God, on his behalf a sinner?

And just to go on record I do not support this man. But just because I don't agree with his views doesn't mean he isn't saved.

Those that are in open defiance against God cannot be saved.

I'm going to assume you mean saved etenally by this statement, and if that is the case then that is a mistake. Eternal salvation is not based upon one's rebellion or surrender to Christ. That is only possible after eternal salvation is complete and then it becomes a choice of the saved individual to obey or rebel.

Just because we are children of God doesn't mean we are all going to be obedient children. Hebrews 12 makes that pretty clear.

Seriously, Phelps was probably molested as a boy, and is just taking it out on everyone else. That's what often happens. You either go one way and embrace the lifestyle (and try to judtify it) or you snap and go the other way like this (to try to squelch your own negative feelings).

To let this drive you to forgetting that ALL have sinned, and you exempt yourself from the equation and presume to be on "God's side" against all of sinning humanity, you become "contrary to all men" in the sense Paul spoke regarding Christ-rejeting Israel.

Sure. I'm so happy that Fred Phelps proclaims that our troops, the Virginia Tech shooting victims, the Amish schoolhouse shooting victims, Jerry Falwell, President Bush, you, me, and anyone and everyone who is not a member of Westboro Baptist Church, and perhaps even a few of them, are all going to hell. That makes me very glad.

The guy is a nut who has taken an idea to the farthest extreme possible, on par with the Nazis. He should be avoided by good and decent Christians, not upheld and paraded.

My statement that Fred Phelps is going to be in hell, too, right along side those homosexuals that he condemns isn't based on my disliking him. It's based on comparing what he professes to believe in his heart via the reading of his printed material to what the bible says is the heart of Christian.

I see evidence of salvation in you and most others here on the BB. And that's based on what you tell me and how you present your beliefs. I can't describe what is in the heart of someone else with 100% accuracy. Only God can do that.

I only know what Fred Phelps, himself, tells me with his words. He doesn't talk about Jesus and the shed blood of the Lamb. He doesn't talk about his sin nature being atoned for through obedience to God through Jesus Christ.

He talks, pornographically, about how much God hates Americans, American soldiers, Katrina victims, homosexuals.....and well, I haven't seen him profess the love of God towards anyone.

This far transcends a simple disgreeing with his views.

I disagree with the views of a lot of people here on the BB and yet, I still believe that they are genuinely saved. :laugh:

You know, if I were a betting woman, I would be tempt to bet that you just insulted me.

You guys surely are reading alot into my posts that isn't there.

The sins of Fred Phelps has not "driven" me to forget my own sin nor think myself "exempt" from sin, thank you very much. I'm not "presuming" to be standing with God against all of humanity and I am not a "Christ-rejecter".

Let me just spit this out really clearly.

As a "preacher", Fred Phelp's either speaks on God's behalf, for truth and righteous, or he does not.

I believe he does not. What about you?

He must be silenced. There are countless lost and hell-bound people who mistakingly think that all Christians share Fred Phelps beliefs. There will be people in hell because of Fred Phelps.

Speaking in a way that Phelps does may oppose such legislation but it brings a type of discredit to the debate as well. We need to distance ourselves from such hereticle men and stand on truth alone. Otherwise we are percieved to say the same things he says. I want no part of that.

The Bible says we are saved by God's grace through faith apart from works. If he has believed in the Substitutionary death and shed blood of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, on his behalf a sinner then he is eternally saved no matter who may protest or who may dislike it.

You can't tell that man's heart any better than anyone else. Heart reading is God's job alone.

So when Fred Phelps shares the gospel with someone he doesn't talk about the death and shed blood of Jesus as the Substitute? Can you give some documentation if that is the case. And even if it is now that doesn't mean he has never trusted in that. There are some folks that have believed according to Scripture and then have later gone off the deep end.

Well unfortunately the extremes are in both camps. There are those like Phelps that concentrate on the wrath of God to the exception of His love and then there are others that only talk about the love of God and leave out His wrath. Both are incorrect and give a misguided picture of Who God is.

Yes you are clear, but there are saved people that will purposely not yield to te Holy Spirit's conviction of their sin. It doesn't make them unsaved, it makes them rebellious.

Just please take my word for it, as someone who has investigated his teachings. He doesn't preach Jesus. He doesn't teach the shed blood of Jesus Christ for the remission of sin. He says, "The love of God is the biggest lie ever told."

He preaches that we are all doomed because of homosexuality and the entire nation is bound for hell.

I hope I don't see him in heaven, but that's not for me to decide.
As far as this earth is concerned, if an American soldier dies in combat and he happens to be from my neighborhood, and Fred Phelps or any of his likes ever come over with their hate banners and all those stuff, I guess I'll have to spit on the ground and ask any of them to cross over and if any of them does.............
