I was just getting ready to shut down here for the evening when my daughter came in on her way to bed.

    "Mom?"

    "Yes, honey?"

"You know that show 'The Bachelor'?"

    "Yes."

"Isn't that exactly the same as prostitution? Everybody knows he is going to have sex with them. And they are all getting paid for it. How is that different from prostitution? They are selling themselves, right?"

    She has a point.

  2. Hrm...very interesting.

I do think it is a horrible way to find a lifelong partner and is doomed to fail...but prostitution? Well...they are suppose to get married in the end. So isn't it more like when father's would sell their daughters into marriage in the Bible? Only this time the daughter is selling herself into a marriage?

I don't watch the show. But I, of course, see the adverts, and they crack me up. I mean, these women have known this guy how long? and they're streaming tears because "oh, I just feel a great connection with him!" Er, yeh. The connection created by a woman desperate to get married. It's not about the guy, it's about winning a husband (and even that's not guaranteed - look at the last couple).

I wouldn't call it prostitution, though. Desperate and kinda pathetic, but not prostitution.

Hmmmm.... I'm assuming that would be the same for all those other TV dating shows like Blind Date, The 5th Wheel, Elimidate, etc etc etc. None of them I watch, of course ;)

I've never seen them, so I have no idea. Do they get paid for being on the show? Are the more or less expected to have sex?

That should answer itself, shouldn't it?

The link to the application is inactive (or at least, I can't get to it), but it should give information as to whether the women get paid to be on the show.

And although the guy may expect sex, I wouldn't think it would be expected by the network. They may like it for ratings purposes, but that's hardly the same thing.

In any rate, even if they are paid to be partcipants on the show, and even if the guy expects sex, I wouldn't call that prostitution. Now, if they're paid for sex, then okay, but being paid to do the show (which I'm doubting, but until I actually see the app, I can't know), and having sex with the bachelor, well, I'd say they're two separate, er, transactions, if you will. There has to be intent for it to be prostitution.

I don't watch the show, and know very little about it. I didn't know they were getting paid, I though it was like some kind of contest(going by the few minutes I saw of the very first show like that). When I saw the commercial the other night it occured to me these women are probably haveing sex with him.
I agree Helen, if they are being paid, and are haveing sex it is prostitution. On the street you can be arrested for haveing sex for money.

He has sex with all of those woman? I haven't watched the show, the commercials advertising the show are steamy enough for me to tell that we wouldn't want to watch it. Just what my 10 year old son needs to see....not!

And those woman get paid for being on the show...do they know that He's going to have sex with them...I mean is it written in their contract? What is the world coming to? What's next? ( this mother of 7 is shaking her head in dismay)

I'm sure the television program will last longer than the actual marriage. If the marriage ever occurs at all.

If they get paid to be on the show--I call it stupidity--the so called guys probably are a little "loose in the loafers" and the girls are all "rockin' in a straight chair!!" I don't think you could pay me to watch it!! If they get paid to be on the show--stupidity!!

If they have sex afterward without getting paid and without getting married--I call it down right sexual perversion, fornication, adultery, and prostitution--on both the male and the female!! God help us!! God help us!!

Folks, stop watching those shows!! They are sick and perverted--not only for 10 year olds but for 40 and 50 and 60 year olds like you and me!!!!

I'm not 40, 50, or 60, and I don't watch it. I've seen plenty of commercials where they are falling all over themselves to fall all over him. Fact is, whether or not they are having sex with him, they are only there because of the promise of possible marriage to a rich man, sounds like selling yourself to me.
Someone please point out whats good and right about the show, and whats wrong with what blackbird said.

Folks, I can tell you--I work hard to keep Southern Baptists(as well as all of the other Baptist "Little Buddies"--Independant, Primative, American, and whoeverelse wants to get under my big ole umbrella) from achieving a BAD name!!

Remember what Noah's sons did when the found "Daddy" drunk as a skunk--giving his family a bad name---??? Over in Genesis 9: 23 it says, "And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness." They were trying to "fix" their family's name that suddenly got tarnished by sin!!

There will always be a few Sanballat's on every wall God's people are trying to erect!! But I promise you--for every one brick that you Sanballat's throw down----here is one Southern Baptist who will throw up five more just like the one you tore down!! You can't keep up with a Nehemiah and an Ezra, boys!!

    BrianT!!

Yes I have--Its one of those shows like my post above states--one of those shows where you have to walk into the living room "backward" with a blanket over your shoulder as you walk---over to the TV set and "click!!" Its off!!

I may reek of Southern Baptist--as another poster has implied--but the show reeks of Sodom!!

I think the show is basically stupid, but nothing as evil as others have expressed.

Is it all that homosexuality, or all that inhospitality that gives it the reek of Sodom?
