Recently, I was reading a thread on Hyles Anderson and realized how ignorant I was on the college, so I did a google. Well, I learned a lot. Part of what I learned was that many of the conversations that happen right here on the BB were part of what my search returned. That's an amazing thing to me - that the discussions we have here, the discussions amongst the brethren (or the cousins or even the Hatfields and the McCoys) end up representing Baptists for the world to see.

Oh! Forget the Baptists, we might represent Christ, for the world to see.

We need to always be humble and Christ honoring in all we do.
NOt that we shouldn't anyway but it is an incentive that others may be watching.

I've always believed that we will never know all of the people across this globe who "read" us here at the BB.

If we have ever been a stumbling block to anyone, God forgive us and God help us.

It is amazing to know that people the world over are seeing our words.

I was looking at web stats for the visitors to my church website and found:

We were avg. about 75 unique visitors each month. Of those 75 I would assume most were members of the church, however there had been visitors from Germany, Australia, Finland, Norway, Great Britain, Peru, Mexico, and the island of Seychelles. Now I had never heard of Seychelles and had to google it to find out it is an island off the east coast of Africa near Madagascar. The other interesting thing about the visitor from Seychelles is that they or someone from there has accessed our site every month since December.

Those facts told me that our small church website is a Missions Field and I need to remember that as I update and maintain the site. If I need to do that for a site that gets 75 visitors a month it is a no brainer that the BB with its thousands of visitors every month is an even larger Mission Field.

A few years ago, when I was slowly realising that christianity might be true, I visited many churches on the web, to see if they belived and acted on it, and also, since I was raised an apostate lutheran church, if they believed the Bible or just tradition.

Well, I understod one day that I should visit a church where the Bible was preached and after a while I gave my life to Jesus and was later baptized. Definitly the web was an help for me.

Still I visit many churches on the web to see how they work, what they believe. I see today for example on www.rugb.org, that many Baptists in America have more priority on the second comming of Christ than we often have in Sweden. I like to notice also that many churches also specifies what the believe on the second coming, for example pre-trib, pre-mill, in our chuch we seldom discuss those things. For me the web is a support when reading the Bible and thinking of things, especially end times.

Maybe there is someone right now in a distant country, that heard about Jesus, who is not ready to visit a church, but do want to learn more about Jesus, and who might also heard that Baptists love there Bible and do note give priority to tradition, but to the Bible.

When I first discovered BB posts were appearing in Google and other search engines I was really taken aback. I didn't like the idea. I thought that what we said here stayed here. I didn't want the world to see Christians debating God, His Word. I asked myself why we had to register for the BB if what we say can be read around the world. I'm still not comfortable with it. I echo what Scarlett said, God forbid that we are a stumbling block to those who read our posts, and God forbid that we would say something here that arouses fury in non-Christian groups that would take their rage out on a local church or any of its members. Whoa! Measure what you say folks. Earth is watching!

He wasn't saying that the world is watching to the exclusion of God watching or with us being less concerned with God watching....

....This whole thread is about our testimony to the world. Anyone, anywhere across the globe with internet access can see everything that we say. And hundreds of topics discussed here pop up when you google them.

As a Chritian, that's scary!! It makes me nervous that I might have ever said anything on the BB that someone, somewhere would read and be offended by and turn away from God because of it.

The intent of my original post was that of a gentle reminder. Folks, we are at times pointing out the specks in our brothers' eyes when the boulders sitting in our own eyes are painfully obvious for the world to see.

We just gotta be careful here.

I keep thinking of the verses on humility.

Jesus humbled himself to the point of death. James tells us that we will be exalted when we humble ourselves. It is well and good to speak the truth (do I hear an Amen!?), but we can do it in a spirit of gentleness and love and factualness. We can state the truth and then step back and let the truth stand on it's own. We can remove ourselves when things get testy, nasty, hateful. How do things get to that point? Because someone keeps egging things on. Standing firm doesn't mean getting the last word.

Again, this is just a reminder that the world can see what we do in the name of Christ.

Doesn't that put a black eye on your testimony if you are in a thread with "banned" under your name?

Some consider it a badge of honor to have been BANNED.

Hopefully, the banned status can be a learning (and humbling) experience. It is certainly something that can be added to a testimony - I was banned because I did not show the fruit of the spirit and some one had to reign me in. What I learned from this was . . . .

Personally, I'm glad to be in a place where we hold each other accountable instead of letting each other run amouk (sp?). That would be biblical wouldn't it? :)

The sad thing of the op is that someone might be looking up Hyles-Anderson and mistakenly believe it is an example of a fundamental Baptist college of higher learning.

What is said (many are "recovering" from the abuse and "education" experienced there or in similar places) is often more revealing about the place than all the slick PR the school might want folks to read.

If I google something to do research on a topic I'm discussing on Baptist Board, and I end up finding a post I made on Baptist Board, can I use that as a reference to support my point?

Just curious. (and I did find out why I was ignorant about it!)

It's on the Internet. It must be accurate and you must be an expert.
