I hope they run this again after I return home in January. Sounds interesting.

Stay on topic. You added nothing to the thread.

Yes, NOVA is an excellent program. You should watch it sometime. Nothing political about this program. You should not pre-judge. Being ignorant is no disgrace, purposely staying ignorant is a disgrace and a sin. God gave all of us a brain and we should use it.

Here are some recent programs you can watch online:

I watch NOVA often and it is a good show. But, I will have to admit that I don't trust PBS when it comes to anything concerning the Bible. I trust them about like I trust the History Channel when it comes to Biblical truth.

I have not seen it, but it seems like I read an article about it where it implied they attempt to allegorize the old testament and crouch it in "scientific" language. My impression was that there would be no honest attempt to understand the Bible in any real historical context, but they attempt to show the Bible is a collection of stories collected in Babylon with kernels of truth, but no historical evidence.

10 or 12 years ago I watched a secular documentary on the OT. It claimed that there is NO evidence that David ever lived or was a real person. According to the PBS program there is clear evidence from Palestine verified by writings in Egypt that David and Solomon lived. There is also evidence from archeology linking the bibical text to the time of Rehaboam/Jereboam; therefore the text is pre-Babylonian. I thought these were huge admissions from a secular source. I give them credit for being honest with the evidence. Of course, their basic assumption is always that the scripture is false unless they find outside evidence that confirms it. That confirming evidence keeps coming.

PBS is an anti-Christian godless liberal station that despises all biblical truth. It is for pseudo-intellectuals who bask in the self perceived glory of their hyper- intellectualism. Any time PBS speaks of religion, theology, God, or historical biblical people you can pre-judge that it will work to contradict scripture and tear down the faith of true believers. PBS is a joke and a liberal bastion of ignorance. This is a debate forum. If you do not want opposing views then you have the opportunity not to start threads in this section. The source is as much on topic as anything else in the op as it lends to the credibility of the subject.

NOVA helped the atheistic professors in a class I was required to take my freshman yr in college called "origens". The professors would often show NOVA clips, and movies along with Hawking documentaries...

It all but destroyed my faith back then...

I now watch it once in a while... but I am stronger now, and can spit out the worthless junk on NOVA...

And your support of it surprises me not.

I used to love this show - as long as it stayed on a topic it was qualified to produce, IE science!!!

For the last decade or two, perhaps longer, the "science"(?) gurus seem to have taken it as a project to do many shows about various aspects of scripture; none of which, IMNSHO, have been realistic, factual, or even remotely objective. They can, however, be very persuasive and with a weak spiritual base, you can/will be totally misled!

I would therefore advise no-one without a strong Christian/Biblical foundation to even consider watching these "straight from hell" documentaries.

'Course all the preceding applies to far more than just NOVA.

A very apt, needful, and on the mark description.

They are buried in the minds of the pseudo-intellectuals who are simply looking for some recognition and self aggrandizement.

The program will discuss recent archeological finds. Should be interesting to anyone with intellectual curiousity.

Yeah, RevMitchell, your statements on this thread are purely blind prejudice. I can tell that you have not seen the documentary. If you had, you would realize that your statments about it are unfounded. I did not agree with everything in the program, but the evidence they presented shows that the antiquity of scripture is greater than has ever been shown before. Is also demonstrates that David and Solomon were actual historical people, a fact liberals have long denied.

If you go the link someone posted on page one, you can actually read the transcripts of the show.

To quote someone (I can't remember who) from another thread,

But seriously folks, anyone who watches any program and accepts everything they say as "gospel" is too gullible (and I'd like to talk to you about some bridges here in Tennessee that I have been given authority to sell :D ). This is true for PBS, Fox, CNN, or you name it.

I wouldn't trust anyone secular (and some calling themselves christian) for anything biblical.

I was glad to discover that back episodes of NOVA are available to watch online. Last night I watched:

    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/scrolls/program.html

It is a fascinating program and sheds light on a segment of history that I knew very little about. I did not know that women and children lived, starved and died in these caves hiding from the Roman army. And though it can never be proved conclusively I find it a fascinating idea that the beautiful copper utensils found buried deep in the cave may have been used in the temply in Jersalem during the time Jesus was on earth.

I'm not much of a T.V. watcher but I've seen parts of the program over the past couple of days... but I fell asleep both times.
...9:30 - 10 is about as late as I can handle... I'm no party animal!

I've been discussing the bits that I've seen with my anti-religious co-worker (who probably watched it to gather information to support his belief in unbelief).

As is typical for this type of religious special, there is very little that encourages believers.

On the other hand there are a few spots that are noteworthy (e.g. the evidence for a historical David).

In general, the program presents a one-sided view of the archeological evidence.
...but it does show the evidence.

    Rob
