He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.- Jn. 3:18

Many Bible students approach the Biblical teaching of redemption wrongly. They approach it from a humanistic point of view rather than from the Biblical presupposition that man is condemned already. Think about this Biblical presupposition carefully. You were condemned already before you were born as you were born into this world as an unbeleiver. Every human being was condemned already before entering into this world.

Now, God is a just God, and a just God just can abitrarily condemn the whole human "already" without some just grounds. It cannot be based upon anything you did between birth and death as you were "condemned already." The biblical explanation is that all humanity existed and acted within one representative person, one representative human will in defiance against God in the person of Adam. Note what Paul did not say. He did not say "by many men's sins many were condemned." He did not say "by the offences of man many be dead." However, that is precisely the eisegetical interpretation that Arminians give for the following words:

But not as the offense, so also is the free gift. For if through the offense of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, has abounded to many.
16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offenses to justification.
17 For if by one man’s offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came on all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came on all men to justification of life.
19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

How many offences by how many men make many dead? - "the offence of one many be dead"
How many offences by how many men condemn many? - "by the offence of one judgement came on all men to condemnation"
How many men with how many offences caused death to reign? - "by one man's offence death reigned"
How many acts offences by how many men made many sinners" "by one man's disobediene many were made sinners"

The Biblical preassumption is that man is justly condemned already before they are individually born into this world - they are born as sinners with a sinful nature that intentionally manifests itself in sins as soon as they are capable of discerning right from wrong.

This means that the whole of human nature in its undivided state acted as one man where free will chose to sin even though in the best of circumstances and without the hindrance of a fallen nature.

This means that salvation is an act of "mercy" that no sinner can demand on the basis of justice as justice demands only their condemnation to hell. However, the Biblical presupposition is that you are condemned already. However, all who cry that it is unjust if God chooses to save some and not all repudiate this Biblical presupposition. The Biblical presupposition is perfectly consistent and just with the statement "I will have mercy upon whom I will have mercy." The term "mercy" presupposes just condemnation has already been declared the just verdict. Justice only demands the verdict be carried out.
