The Book And The Parchments

    I had read parts of this book recently . I have since returned it to the owner . F.F. Bruce the famous scholar was the author . He is well-known especially in Plymouth Brethren circles . ( I was in that non-denominational denomination for several couple decades ) . I took down a couple citations but managed to note only one page number for one of the quotes . The first one is from page 232 . Some of you may have this book and can supply the other page numbers .

    ... the stylistic elegance of the New Testament in the Authorized Version is a quality largely absent in the Greek original ...

    Meaning for meaning -- They have made the sentence , and not the individual word , the unit for translation . [ I don't know if that is word-for-word or not -- Rip]

    ... the Authorized Version used considerable liberty in exercising the choices of now this synonym and now that .
