    Howdy y'all!!

I have/had a friend that is a Morman and she explained that one of the "signs" that she is on the right track and that this was a religion(sp?) from God is that she was told/and did feel a burning in her bosom.

    My question are:

    1)Has anyone experienced that feeling?
2)Is it a physical feeling or just a symbolical feeling of fullness and love?
3)And last but not least, is it maybe a demon touching their hearts and making them "burn"?

I know I've had some questions that were doozers, but this is just something I would like to understand so that when confronted with it again I can defend against it.

    Many thanks,

    Lori,

Does every Mormon get the burning feeling? Do other religions get it according to your friend?

It would probably be a feeling because if it left a burn mark on her she would have told you that part, too.

She needs to inform herself with God's Word about Jesus for her salvation because Mormonism isn't gonna save her. She WILL feel a burning feeling (in hell) but it will be complete body pain unless she is trusting in the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

I had the same feeling as well, and then I took two Tums and it went away. [IMG]

Seriously, though, this hits a little bit too close to home. It sounds like my ex-wife, who left me for another man, because she felt a "desire" for him in her heart, and she didn't think that God would give her those feelings if it wasn't the right thing to do. I remember when she told me that. I kept my cool, though I admit I might have made some comment about her canine species affiliation.

Sounds like a hot flash to me. LOLOL

Ever watch your child in a play or hear them give a speech or a Bible verse at church and have this strong sensation within your chest? Like you're going to burst with pride? I'm guessing that's what she is feeling and it's an emotional response, in my humble opinion.

Isn't that a symptom of heart attack?

My first response when I read the feeling of the burning feeling in the bosom was that someone put out a cigarette on her chest. [IMG]

That is why I have been told I have a warped sense of humor. It gets me in trouble all the time!!!! LOL I just can't help it that these things pop into my mind. LOL

Lori I found a couple verses for your consideration.

When Jesus opened up the scriptures to the disciples, they too had "heart burn". Its a spiritual description of what one may feel as the Lord opens them up to us.

Luke 24:32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

Prov 6:27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

Jerm 23:29 [Is] not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD

Psalm 39:3 My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned

Ok so if it is possibly a feeling of Pride kinda like what dianeT suggested and they don't know that, I suppose that would be convincing to someone that's just learning about that religion and not getting deeper into it.

She says she prayed for a sign and this is what was given to her. That's something that needs to be combated(sp?) since we are told to test the spirits to know if they are from God. Can anyone suggest a good way of a different test?

Johnv that's what I was going to say lol, but then I remembered that she might not like me telling her that :D

p.s. she's dropped me like a hot rock (over something different) so I think she may need to come back to me before she'll be willing to listen to anything I say to her.

    Thanks y'all!!

Don't forget, folks, Satan is a great mimic. This 'burning in the breast' is a very real thing for Mormons and part of their testimony.

However the source of that 'burning' never seems to be an issue for them...

Usually His fire is in "the sight of men" whereas the Holy Spirit is within the secret place of the heart.

I have asked how Mormons how they know their testimony is of God. Usually there is no answer. Their testimony is almost always personal feelings as the standard.

There is a good site about Mormonism at http://www.hismin.com/

She was a translator for 14 yeasr for the Mormon Church.

It is supposed to be a "warm" feeling that confirms something (usually referring to an acceptance that the "Gospel" or the "BoM" is true.)

Every Mormon says they feel it, every ex-Mormon says they "thought" they felt it.

What you must understand is that Mormonism isn't a "Church" or even a belief; but rather a social system. Many Mormons, even when presented with the most strongest evidence will not leave the Church. Also, someone who is an LDS will have and/or be able to get an answer for anything you may present. Because of the social pressure, they will easily take it as an out.

My wife and I are the "black sheep" of the family for turning away from the LDS Church. Even though our kids are the most well behaved and sweetest of all the cousins, they are treated second class. The family won't come to our kids' games or school functions, etc. because we left the "fold." For someone to leave the LDS is a lot more than someone changing churches, it's really leaving your family and your social circle behind.

    Tim,

I have heard that leaving was very hard. But you made the right decision and your children will reap the rewards because of your faithfulness to Christ. He knew this would happen to some of His children. I believe that there will be special blessings above and beyond for those who have had to leave the old life and family behind to follow Jesus. Praise be to God for His awesomeness!

Tim, I know what you mean! Believe me, when we left the UPC, it was one of the hardest things that we have ever encountered. They are God's people, but you don't leave their churches/organization without being mistreated,..by some..not all! ;)

But, that's OK, God gave us another church that still preaches the same message of salvation that is given to the UPC's.

Our new church: www.christtemplechurch.net Come visit!

I count the feelings I get from worshipping God and trusting Him as precious evidences of His love for me and the reality of our fellowship. But I do not trust them alone. There is also the congruence with God's word, His Bible; there is also the fact that His promises have worked out in my life factually; there is also the fact that my view of God in control is very intellectually satisfying; and I always say it takes a whole man, everthing you've got, body, mind, soul, all working together, to properly relate to God.

    azwyld singing:

"IIIIII'mmm tha black sheep of tha faamily....wake me up early, be good to my dawgs, and teach my children to pray...!!!" John Anderson song...

I have read that according to some a person would be better off being a murderer than to leave the faith because for those that have left the "faith" they have left the "truth" and will end up in the outer darkness, whereas the murderer if he turns into a good Morman will get into the celestial temple.

    Spooky much!

When I got saved about 20 years ago the Lord delivered me from cigarette habit. But for a while evey time I saw someone pull out a pack of Marlboros I got a terrific burning in my bosom.
I havent had a cigarette since 1983 and I still get an urge once in a while. [IMG]
