The monastic lifestyle and formal speech was an incongruity in itself (from the point of view that Darth Vader wasn't originally intended to be Luke's father). Remember Kenobi telling Luke in SW, "I was once a Jedi night same as your father." And, referring to Skywalker Sr.'s old light sabre, "Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough." As the convoluted story evolved, the Force became a character in the story, and those who knew the Force began to walk like "holy men" (walking and moving slowly as if they were under water), then they began talking really formal-like.

Then they became more like monks than knights.

At the end of ESB, my stomach turned when Luke reverently called Vader, "Father" through telepathy. I mean, c'mon!

    Also, GL didn't direct TESB.

    Don't forget:
    "It's not my fault!!"

    "Laugh it up fuzzball!"

Leia: "Would it help if I got out and pushed?"
    Solo: "It might!"

    Agreed.

Hang on... TNG had a rough start... but so has every ST show getting its feet. I loved TNG and the ensemble approach with Stewart out front. Granted, DS9 and VGR didn't have the star appeal that TNG did, but I thought both were great. (Actually... I hated DS9 until someone gave me the first season on DVD because they didn't like it. I fell in love with serial television because of DS9, and now TNG even is a little too episodic for me.) I loved Enterprise because it was new, fresh, and hadn't been done. I wish it had lasted a little longer because the last half of the 4th (last) season is rushed to "pay off" all the set up and story lines of the first three and a half seasons.

Soryr to hijack and talk about Trek here. We return you to your regularly scheduled discussion of the sins of GL. :wavey:
