    No, I did know (or perhaps had forgotten) about this remarkable aircraft. I did see two notable blunders in the first linked article, that we had sufficient C-17s to replace other aircraft. We actually need about 100 more C-17s and we do not need to spend (waste) any more money on the bloated C-5's that need extensive runways. I lived in Long Beach, California while growing up and still visit. One of my haunts is "Signal Hill" overlooking LB airport and what had been our C-17 factory. Trust me, when I saw one of those new aircraft taking off, I stood proud and watched with joy, one of our very best.
