    Right now I am reading An Exposition Of Hebrews by Arthur Pink and Knowing God by J. I. Packer and about to finish both... I am enjoying both... If you are anything like me I always need one waiting the wings so to speak to continue my studies... And I feel think next this one is the one God is directing me to as both writers have expressed that Christians hear a lot about God the Father and in the same vein his Son Jesus Christ but it seems we hear very little and I can only speak for myself about the person of the Holy Spirit, who is as much involved in our Eternal Salvation as the other two... So in my search for understanding this subject more, I purchased The Holy Spirit by John Owens... It has great reviews and I'm sure I will learn a lot as I compare what he has to say with scripture... Have any of you other brethren read this book and what are your thoughts and is it worth the read... Do you recommend highly this Puritan writer... Brother Glen:)

    I recommend John Owen's.

    Don't let that stop you, you should read him anyway. :)

    Thanks Jon for recommending John Owen's, I know there are many by him, so you haven't read The Holy Spirit?... Well knowing that now, I know I must... Brother Glen;)

    I have. I guess about a year ago. I read that along with Francis Chan's The Forgotten God. I was doing a study of the Spirit. For me the doctrine of the Holy Spirit is a difficult doctrine.

    Now I am excited... I want something that stirs me up and gets me to think and clears the cobwebs I get from some of the posters here, some just rattle on and on and put you to sleep... Not you Jon, we just sometimes disagree... Brother Glen:)

    It is a good study.

    I keep e-notes and jotted this down (to give you a trailer to your book) :

    Whatever God works in us and upon us, he doth it by his Spirit; he, therefore, who hath no work of the Spirit of God upon his heart did never receive either mercy or grace from God, for God giveth them not but by his Spirit. (John Owen)

    This is one reason I insist that "spiritual truth" is not an acceptance of knowledge but something much deeper.

    Glen, you are on the right track. I also need to study the HS much more... think I will look into this book... can’t go wrong with John Owen. :Thumbsup

    That is great Steve, then you and I can compare notes... Here is a link to the one I'm getting, I checked the others but there were bad reviews on the paperback ones, I recommend this one... Glen:)

    Owen’s is well worth reading if you have the time.... but goodness why can’t the Puritan writers get to the point quicker.
    Here’s a newer one I’ve enjoyed.

    God’s Indwelling Presence: The Holy Spirit in the Old and New Testaments
    by James M. Hamilton Jr.
    ​
    Organized differently than many other books on the Spirit.
