For 11 years, the Chaplain of the US House of Representatives was the Roman Catholic priest, the Rev. Daniel P. Coughlin. He resigned in April of this year. His replacement will be Roman Catholic Jesuit priest, the Rev. Patrick J. Conroy.

I just read that past US President James Madison wrote that taxpayers should not pay for a chaplain. He said lawmakers should pay for one themselves.

Tell that to Rep. Boehner, who rants about the deficit, and who nominated the Jesuit priest.

With what is going on, having a chaplain is probally a good ideal

I wish they'd at least appoint a Methodist, Episcopalian, Baptist, Jew, or even Hindu. Anything other than a Roman Catholic. After 11 years of a Roman Catholic, it is incredibly poor taste to appoint another. It makes it appear than Roman Catholicism has become the state religion.
