A problem arises when we look at the verse in Revelation that suggests that eternal life is not by faith in Jesus Christ.

Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

So what gives? Because this was promised to the elect.

Luke 20:34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: 35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: 36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

Does that sound like they need to eat from the tree of life? No.

So then if we look at very verse given at the end of each address to a church about overcoming, we find that the rewards are for those left behind saints as the Overcomer is Jesus, and He is how they would receive those rewards for He will finish His work in those that get left behind since they are not resurrected to be liken unto the angels that never die.

Look again for what the tree of life will serve as.

Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Revelation 22:2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

That can't be for the elect; the pre trib raptured saints. It can only be for those left behind that did not overcome by departing from iniquity, and so Christ has to overcome for them.

So all those verses to each church about overcoming are the rewards for those saints left behind when Christ has to finish His work in them so they can serve Him in the milleniel reign.
