The lack of God within a church

    Ive been going to this Bible study at this insanely huge church.....I dont like it at all. Too commercial. They just built a new building there in teh sum of $14 million. Besides it being too big, I just dont think that God is there. Ive never taken anything with me when I've left the building.....am I just a bad Christian, and am not paying enough attention, or does God choose to relay His messages to me through my small church?

    Anyone else ever experience that?

    It is not so much the size of the church but the heart of the people.

    If you can find the answer you are looking for to this question in scripture then go with it. But if it is not there then set it aside and pray that God will reveal His will for you in this BIble study at this church.

    Many times when a situation we are in seems empty it is God pushing us to pray over it more and to focus on Him or to ("Darash"-Hebrew) seek His face with all your heart so He can show you something. To many times we look to abandon these situations instead of just praying more about it. (I am not suggesting that you are intending to do this)

    If you go to church looking for something, you will receive something. God's Word does not return to Him void.

    If the pastor didn't 'fill your cup', maybe your cup was upside down...

    Worship is not about getting from God. This is in fact anti-worship. true worship looks only to give to God with no expectation of anything in return.

    We go to church to learn as well as worship...

    I think prehaps you are uncomfortable in a large church and are not 'getting anything' becasue of that. Unless there is something specific you can point to that violates scripture in whats being taught, then it's not the church, but you, as Sue said, if you look to be fed there you will, if you look not to be fed there becasue of the size then you won't be.

    Isn't learning a form of Worship?
    You are paying God attention to learn from Him that means you think He is worth your time.... That is worship.
    But if you just soak up the knowledge without using it, that is selfish.
    So learning then would not be worship.

    But if you go to church for you ... that is selfish, and not worship.

    As could this be a personal problem of your own, yes it could, but it could also be simply just poor discipleship on their part also. Today large churches very well can mean a church that the world loves. However it is impossible to tell from this side. So like I said if you are not being fed LEAVE no matter what the reason and find someplace where you feel filled when you leave.
    Don't buy this stuff that it is all your fault. Many Pastors today are simply lazy in their preaching and almost if not totally lax in their leading.

    We used to go to a church where we were not being fed but tried to stick it through because we felt we should. But upon praying earnestly about it, we felt God leading us to leave there and find another church - one where we could get some good, solid, Biblical teaching and fellowship. We had been at that church for 13 years and I just didn't want to leave - I thought all our friends were there and I didn't want to go someplace else and start over.

    Well, DH found another church after a few months of searching (I continued at our old church during that time because I had little ones) and I moved over. What amazes me now is how God orchestrated everything for us. We settled in SO fast, ended up with friends that are so much closer and dearer to us than at the other church - and way MORE friends - and we have never stopped being blessed at the new church. It's now 11 years since we left and DH became an ordained pastor and is pastoring at this "new" church and they are truly our church family - something that I THOUGHT I had at the other church but it was completely NOT like this. The teaching here is amazing - we've learned and grown so much since coming here from all the "meat" we're getting.

    If you have prayed and God is telling you to move on, then do so. But go with what HE wants for you - not what your own will is. Seek HIS face and He will tell you what to do.
