I always took this that since this little boy was poor and had no gift to bring, he brought the only thing he had - which was his drum and his song. He did this not to buy his salvation, but to honor the king.

Not my favorite Christmas song, but don't know how this is offensive -- other than the "pa rum pum pum pum" that goes on endlessly.

    Who's taking offense?

The song plays in my house a lot during the season. So does "Jolly Old Saint Nicholas".

No one said it was about salvation, either. Well, respondents have often assumed that's what I meant, because the song parallels their views of obtaining the approbation of God. I'm just pointing out the paganism in the song.

    Sheesh.

It's the thought that God smiles on your uncommanded and corrupt offerings, simply because they were "from the heart" and you could do no better.

Matt 26:7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.
8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked.
9 “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.”
10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me.

Psa 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Brother I tried to get clarification from you about why you see it is Pagan. I received small and vague answers that failed to give me understanding. However, the assumption is not because of our views but because of your language.

Do you really think that song is about smiling at a machine?

    You never disappoint...:Roflmao

I didn't say that was what the song was about, but it does say he smiled at the boy's instrument.

Nope he said "He smiled at me and my drum". The point is the boy is playing to honor God. It is apparently all he has. He wasn't saying God smiled at the boy and at the drum, he was saying God smiled at the combination meaning what the boy was doing with it.

Not sure why that needs explaining.

Is it incredible to you that Jesus, through the eyes of love and mercy, could smile at a child? Do you think Jesus never smiled at anyone? That would make him a jerk.

    Well, thanks. I guess...

So why was the little drummer boy a pagan? Can you elaborate?

It's incredible to me the sanctity some ascribe to their cherished traditions. :p

It's hard to believe all the fun I've missed bashing an imaginary kid wanting to worship the Christ child with all he had the only way he knew how. I can see it now: After being thunderously chewed out by the Father and royally forewarned, he goes and poisons the God-approved-and-accepted, though obviously thoroughly materialistic, Magi along with their camels in true evil Cain vs righteous Abel fashion. Banishment from mankind to follow.

Aaron can go around his house next Halloween with a drum mounted round his neck and sporting a 666 tattoo. Answering the door so adorned and with such a horrid forehead should soundly discourage the most determined trick-or-treaters. All will surely think he, his albatross of a drum, and his "parum pum pum pum" accompaniment to the song playing in the background really are for the Devil, especially otherwise dressed and prancing around as King David.
