LOL...that's a great line,Neil! I was going to say that's how women feel about men too, but I remembered that you men are actually pretty predictable. [IMG]

As the French say, though, vive la difference!

I've never seen either of those movies, btw. You're the second person who has highly recommended "Howard's End,"though; perhaps I should rent it. I am something of an Anglophile, so I would probably enjoy the British-ness of it and the Merchant-Ivory-ness of it. I did like "Room with a View."

You're all gonna laugh at this, but I think in circa 80's the most romantic film I've seen was
"Ghost" starring Patrick Swayze. :D :D
Haven't seen a really good one since.
I thought "Gone with the Wind" was corny, though.
Giant and East of Eden were probably better, but then, I was just a kid in shorts with "something-coming-out-of-the-nose" at the time. :D
Hope they come out with a remake of those two.

A romantic movie I really liked was Far and Away, with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.
    Another one was Green Card.

Yes,Katie!!! "Far and Away" was wonderful, and I liked "Green Card " too. A more recent good one is "Return to Me"...my husband even liked it.

If you haven't seen "Remains of the Day" -- also with Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson, and also Merchant-Ivory -- I heartily recommend watching it and "Howard's End" as a pair. (Though given the length of both films, you're probably better off viewing them on successive weekends.)

Saggy, I love Spitfire Grill, I have that and watch it a lot. Another crying movie. I've just began to realize just how much I cry.

At the risk of being branded a heretic my top favorites are.

    1. Pretty Woman - Julia Roberts/Richard Gere
    2. Return to me - David Decovny/Mimi Driver
    3. Sleepless in Seattle - Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan
    4. Ghost - Patrick Swazey/Demi Moore
    5. Dirty Dancing - Patrick Swazey/Jennifer Grey
    6. Runnaway Bride - Julia Roberts/Richard Gere
    7. Hope Floats (Gads Cant remember the leads)
    8. Officer&a Gentleman - Richard Gere/Debra Winger
    9. For Richer or Poorer - Tim Allen/Kirsty Alley
    10. Beauty and the Beast - Belle/The Beast

Is there any other woman here who thinks that P. Swazey is absolutely the hunk of all hunks?
(Don't you just love a guy who can dance/ooopppss this is a Baptist board) :D

OK, Multimom, you are officially censured as a heretic and must perform penance ... by watching John Belushi and Bill Murray movies. ;)

Seriously, this may be a guy thing, but the only one on your list that I liked was "Beauty and the Beast."

I suspect I'm not alone (among guys) in thinking that Swazey is as loathsome as Leonardo ... and that's saying something.

I had forgotten Somewhere in Time. I loved it I cried at the end when Christopher Reeves grieved himself to death trying to return to Jayne Seymore.

I know, its a chick thing. All men hate leading men in a chick flick.

Did you see Return to Me?? So cute. I loved Carroll O'Connor's role as Mimi Driver's grandfather. I think that maybe that was his last roll before he died. Anyone know for sure??

I don't hate all leading men in chick flicks.

Carey Grant was wonderful in many movies, including "Father Goose" and "An Affair to Remember (yeah, a real tear-jerker).

Because none of us look like him.

Actually, I'm one of the few males who not only teared, but sobbed, at the end of Titanic. No one told me the ship was going to sink

Titanic is one of my favorite movies, until you get to the 1,375th consecutive viewing. Before that, it's good stuff.

I remember seeing it with my wife. Afterwards, she told me how special I was to her, how glad she was that I stumbled into her life, and that she'd never let go of me. Three years later she divorced me to shack up with an ex boyfriend. Ouch.

But I'm stull a hopeless romantic.

My favorite romantic film is Young Frankenstein.
