Indeed. I'm sure that it will be dismissed, though, without real consideration by many.

    THE IRAQ SURGE:Why Its Working

And the tribal leaders in Sunni al Anbar Province, the general reports, "have had enough." Not only are the al Qaeda fighters causing civil disruption by fomenting sectarian violence and killing civilians, but on a more prosaic but practical side, al Qaeda is bad for business. "All of the sheiks up there are businessmen," Petraeus said. "They are entrepreneurial and involved in scores of different businesses. The presence of the foreign fighters is hitting them hard in the pocketbook and they are tired of it."

Murtha finds military progress in trip to Iraq

"I think the 'surge' is working," the Democrat said in a videoconference from his Johnstown office, describing the president's decision to commit more than 20,000 additional combat troops this year. But the Iraqis "have got to take care of themselves."

As for the question of whether the surge is working, I can only state what I witnessed: U.N. staff and those of non-governmental organizations seem to feel they have the right set of circumstances to attempt to scale up their programs. And when I asked the troops if they wanted to go home as soon as possible, they said that they miss home but feel invested in Iraq. They have lost many friends and want to be a part of the humanitarian progress they now feel is possible.

I think people who support sending our young soldiers off to kill and be killed should be will to enlist themselves, no matter what their age.

    Not really.

Being so heavily invested in defeat causes anti war wackos to make some strange correlations to minimize any sign of success of any kind.

Interesting because I believe that anyone who supports the police and fire departments ought to be police officer and fire fighters themselves, no matter what their age. :BangHead:

I base my statement on a fairly well known quote.

Old men start wars an' young men fight 'em.

    What is yours based on?

Actually, this is the full quote I was referring to:

QUOTATION: I ... hate with a murderous hatred those men who, having lived their youth, would send into war other youth, not lived, unfulfilled, to fight and die for them; the pride and cowardice of those old men, making their wars that boys must die.

ATTRIBUTION: Mary Roberts Rinehart (1876–1958), U.S. novelist.

Still struggling to recover from one of the all time great comebacks to your <personal attack deleted - LE> statement?

    Just move on.

I'm not struggling at all. My statement has been applied to wars since WW1. You're the one who makes off the wall comments on a regular basis.

Think about what you just said, for a moment. FDR should have gone to fight against Japan. Truman should have gone to fight in Korea. You may disagree about us going to war, but the idea that before any president commits forces to war that he must be on the front line is silly.

Tim, your wasting your time with such none sense. Statements like that don't even deserve comments.
